Who Lives Longer
‘‘Who Lives Longer’’ by Patricia Skalka discusses about what you can do to live longer. In these days men tend to die younger than women because they break the rules more than women, what I mean about ‘‘break the rules’’ is that they do not follow the seven simple health practices. Another thing is that people have to be careful because stress can cause short term health and psychological issues.
Nowadays people are stressed because most of them work too hard and do not take a break. My mother is one of them, she is always working.
Something that was making my mother sick was the environment that we lived, there are a lot of crime, and the noise in the grocery beside our house in the neighborhood that I was raised. Thanks God she lives better now.
Although I do not work, I feel stressed sometimes because when I do not have class I have to take care of my little sister and brothers. My little sister is a foolish little girl, she thinks she is big, and always wants to do things that she can’t do. The things that she does, she does it on purpose to attract my attention. The three of them are always making mess, and me correcting them and cleaning the mess, that stresses me.
One thing that I do to reduce my stress is going to New York to my brother’s house, I have fun with him. I just feel peaceful over there.

The only way stress is helpful is if it’s taken in dosages, and if it becomes too overwhelming I need to take a break. I know when that time comes intuitively, and if I don’t I can take a look at my body’s response. I’m prone to breaking out when I’m under a lot of stress, as well as experiencing fatigue all the time. Once it reaches a certain point, I take a day off of school, or do something fun with my friends. Taking care of my mental wellness is as important to me, if not more so, as my physical well…

Sometimes you just need to clear your mind. Stress just takes over your body and it overpowers you. You need to know how to control it by doing something physical. Human life expectancy in the United States has nearly doubled in the last one hundred years. Prior to the early twentieth century, human life expectancy hovered between thirty-eight and forty years of age. Today human life expectancy in the United States is seventy-nine years of age. This jump in life expectancy can be accredited to modern day medicine, refrigeration, clean water and improved hygiene. Disease was the most common killer during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries (Helmuth). One of the biggest contributors to raising the national life expectancy was infant mortality rates and child mortality rates going down.
