Why Are Following Orders Important

In regards to the historic importance of following orders it in the Army, without the soldiers following the orders then there would be no structure and no control. Tasks that superiors and officers can’t, won’t, or don’t have time to complete will not get completed. Throughout history of this nation each unit has given orders with the thought they would get accomplished, without the following through of these orders many of the Army’s greatest victories could have and probably would have been defeats. However to concentrate on another unit, during my deployment to Afghanistan my unit was attacked by an ambush, we immediately had injured and wounded soldiers with the first rounds fired. Orders were being given to return fire; thankfully the Commander was able to speak loud enough to give this order even after a 7.62mm round ripped through his right
This doing the right thing and following orders cost a soldier his life on this day and we can’t get his life back, PFC Dennis, Jarod will always be in my heart. This is the reason that originally I spoke of the WTB as a unit because weather we are standing in the face of the enemy willing to trade gunfire and possibly our lives for the protection of freedom or we are in the WTB, the general rules for the Army are the same we follow orders of the officers appointed over us. Because honestly if we are all doing our job right as Officers, NCO’s, Soldiers, and Civilians then this unit would be no different than any other unit in the Army whether that unit is a combat unit or a combat support unit. Don’t allow the fact that we are in a WTB allow you to change the Army standards or think differently of the soldiers here because if you do that then the only person who is truly in the wrong is
