Most high school students after graduation will attend a community college for a degree in his or her choice. Some students will have the luxury of their parents to pay for their college expenses. However, most students will not have their parents to pay and they will have to rely on student loans. Depending on which degree the student chooses is the deciding factor in the cost of classes. Most credit hours in a community college range from 100-369 dollars per credit hour (College Calc). This calculation is depending on if the student is a in state or out of state student.

Meanwhile, the costs are adding up without the student really thinking about the amounts. A full 2 year term at a community college is approximately 19,330 dollars for in state students and 30,924 dollars for out of state students (College Calc). The average semester is approximately 4,832 dollars for in state and 7,731 dollars for out of state (College Calc).
The interest a student will pay alone is several thousand dollars on top of the actual loan itself. There are two types of loans from the government, subsidized loans and unsubsidized loans, unsubsidized loans are considered private as subsidized loans are not. The interest rate will vary for each individual loan. For instance, this year the fixed loan rate for unsubsidized Stafford loan is 6.80%, as the subsidized is fixed at 3.40% undergraduate(USA Funds). This is very expensive and puts most students in debt for an average of 10 years (College Clac).
