Why Did Leslie Not Leave
Why did Leslie not leave? It was a perfect crime, there was a motivated offender, Conor, a suitable target, Leslie, and the absence of a capable guardian, which was her parents. Even though Leslie was an adult she did not have the best relationship with her parents, her dad was always gone with work and her mother was an alcoholic. Conor abusing Leslie did not start right away, it happened slowly as Leslie started trusting and loving him more, it seemed like Conor progressively abused her even more. It started with chocking her one night during sex and escalated to verbal/emotional, then to physical violence and so on.
Conor defiantly used male dominance over Leslie. He not only told Leslie but showed her that he was more important and that she not talk back to him ever. Situational Couple Violence would be an excellent example of this because every single time Leslie would stand up for herself and verbally fight back

She was scared to leave and the one night she tried to leave, she got as far as getting in the car and driving around town. She did not have anywhere to go because he isolated her from all friends and family. It seems like because of him isolating her, she did not want to go to the people who could help her like Winnie because she did not want to lose friends or respect. With any victim that has been verbally or emotionally victimized, they start to believe the words they hear, especially if it happens often enough. That is what happened to Leslie, she started to believe that she got to friends the Guy, the guy from Harvard Business School who wanted to help Conor get into Harvard. Since Conor isolated her, Leslie felt like she had nowhere to go because she has not talked to her friends or family in a long time making her feel like she was alone. It seemed like when she finally told Winnie, Leslie seemed to have gotten braver because she had gotten that reassurance that Winnie was there for
