dole which is a supplement of land believed to help the plebeians gain a part of the social class.
The invading of the germanics and the vandals is thought of as vandalization to rome, causing the western half to fall. But all these things put into effect I think cause the big hit that sent it all down.
All of these things can be supported but I think that the inflation, invasion and corruption and over taxation caused it the most. Because the over taxation was for these things for civilians and the military, this caused the citizens to go poor but it would’ve been fine if it would have worked but the army was good but not great. The increasing size of Rome started off helping the army and military be able NOT to succeed by make the republic just so large that the military couldn’t protect it. The military which already drained the people of the republic failed in protection causing people wondering who to find protection for then being angry at the government. were puzzled what do I do? Where do I go? So they went to the church the only thing they thought could protect them then the church went under after that chaos. But before this was inflation and inflation is a term used for a time when a lot of money buys almost nothing and to stop this the consul Diocletian imposed reforms and taxes to attempt to pull the people out of the growing inflation but it worked...for a week probably. This also caused the people to wonder who to go to. All of this caused weak ruling so then the republic was divided. The eastern republic was fine in constantinople but the western part was rough trade routes declining and invasion of germanics and vandals going rabid and rampaging. But it is also thought that the people of the republic became greedy by hoarding the dole that was supposed to help them by gaining in the social class but it hurt them. The dole was entertainment by the circus and food to eat. Hard to believe that the help of the society caused them to go under and not be able to be successful and last longer.
But in the east part of Rome they prospered compared to the western part.
The eastern part was in the capital of Constantinople which helped because christianity was outlawed and if you were a christian you were prosecuted. But when constantine came to power he ended the persecution and started making it okay to be christian. Also Theodosius made christianity the state religion meaning that if you were there it was what everyone was and you were probably considered weird or quire for being something other than everyone. But before all of this the Romans were polytheistic and believed that they would last forever because the gods were pleased with them and would let them prosper. They believed in judaism which let them be polytheistic. But this caused an arise in people like Sadducees,Pharisees and Zealots. The Sadducees wanted nothing but cooperation between the people. However the Pharisees wanted to trial you about religious law that's all they knew and that's all they wanted you to know. But the Zealots in my eyes were the worst they wanted power to be theirs they wanted to overthrow the roman government but they tried and epically failed. Also their were Essenes who were just people that were like the amish in today’s society they were away from everything and didn’t care about anything except their farms and
crops.
