World War I consisted of four different M.A.I.N reasons why ww1 started. These causes are Militarism, Alliances, Imperialism, and …show more content…
Nationalism. Militarism is a policy that focused on war preparedness. For example, strengthening their military within size and abilities. Alliances were built to form a power of balances throughout Europe and meant that nations had a mutual respect for one another depending on if they are enemies or allies. Imperialism meant that the nations would extend their power by gaining territories for an empire. Nationalism is one's loyalty to one country and this had positive and negative effects. Nationalism influenced Archduke’s assassination. Alliances had a greater contribution to the outbreak of WW1 because it forced the greater powers of Europe to go to war when their allies did, The Treaty of London contributed, and the significant changes to the European alliances. During World War l there were two alliances and they were the Triple Entente and the Triple Alliance. The Triple Entente consisted of Britain, France, and Russia meanwhile the Triple Alliance consisted of Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Russia. These alliances were formed behind closed doors, but they were revealed to the public after the signing. Some nations had made negotiations without even letting their other alliance nations know about it and these often caused problems. When the alliance's first started it caused a chain of reactions which meant that after the archduke was assassinated it set off the alliances. There was a secret treaty called the, “Reinsurance Treaty” and it stated that as long as the Germans didn’t attack France, and Russia did not attack Austria-HUngary that they wouldn’t get involved in each other wars. The Treaty of London between the Triple Entente and Italy wanted Italy to declare war with Germany and Austria within one month which caused suspicion within the alliances. These alliances really started problems, but they were just getting started. Another treaty that encouraged the alliances to start wars was the, “Dual Alliance” treaty. This treaty was between Germany and Austria-Hungary and they promised each other support just in case they were attacked by Russia. Since these alliances had the support of other nations that made some of the country more savage than others. The support that these nations had made it easier to call out wars against other people. When an alliance called for war that meant that its allies were forced into entering the war also. Austria-Hungary knew they could count on the Germans so they weren’t afraid to start a war with Serbia. Russia felt like it was there job to protect the struggling country of Serbia, but Serbia still couldn’t count on France or Russia. Since these nations knew they had the support of others it caused them to start wars. When Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia, the Russians had started mobilizing but the Germans had told them to stop. Russia said that mobilizing war against Austria-Hungary so Germany declared war on Russia. Without confirmation that Germany giving them reassurance of support the war wouldn’t have started. Alliances made it possible for nations to have other people to turn to incase things didn’t go as planned. Some nations tried their best to stay isolated from the wars and declared neutrality like Italy, Denmark, The Netherlands, and etc. Militarism, Nationalism, and Imperialism wasn’t really the case for starting these types of things.
Imperialism, Nationalism, and Militarism isn’t a best choice for what started the outbreak of World War One because the technology didn’t start enhancing until the wars actually begun.
Countries saw other countries with advanced technology which caused competition within the weapons they had. Even though archduke was assassinated because of nationalism I feel like it still wouldn’t have had much of a bigger effect like the alliances did. Imperialism is another one that started it, and it created problems between Britain and france with Germany because Britain and France owned lots of land. They still wouldn’t have had other people join the war if the alliances were never made. It would just be that one country and another country at war instead of another country's allies behind brought into the war regardless of if they did anything. Alliances overall had a better contribution towards starting World War
One. In the final analysis, alliances played a major role in World War One starting. Without these alliances nations wouldn’t have been brought into the war leaving it with not as many wars or not as much stuff happening. If you think about it, what if these alliances were never made? Who would have the support they needed to back each other up? How would they take up for one another? The secrets between the alliances also helped start WW1 because without these secrets there wouldn’t be any suspicion within the nations or any problems that they needed to face. The local conflicts drew in all members on the alliances and other western Europeans allies had problems too. The national alliances were a common feature during this time, and it started to spread and become known. It all started with Austria- Hungary and Serbia, but it caused other conflicts between a lot of other nations turning into World War One.
