Why Did I Join Army JROTC?
I joined Army JROTC for many reasons. Ever since I was little, I’ve been interested in joining the army. Playing with toy soldiers as a kid, watching movies playing, and video games showed me what army life was like. You wake up really early in the morning, shoot guns, throw grenades, and going to war were some of the things that interested me for some reason. Right before high school I started getting more informed about the JROTC program. I learned that this program teaches you about leadership, helps you prepare for college and teaches you how to basically use your mind. And suddenly, the military wasn’t about shooting guns and throwing grenades like in the video games and movies. The military is about connecting with people. It’s about learning survival skills and building a stronger mind.
I joined JROTC for the experiences and for the people I would meet. I knew right off the bat the JROTC environment would be friendly. And it is. Many people think our program is just about exercising and things of that nature but its not. It teaches you things you need to know. Life lessons and skills that you must know in order to survive in the modern world are taught through presentations and book lessons. They also teach you how to maintain good study habits and to make good choices.
JROTC seemed so interesting. Especially talking to others who had done the program, JROTC came recommended not just by former member but my former teachers all recommended the course. It was also said that colleges love to see these kinds of programs on resumes. I had also read pamphlets on the JROTC program and I was immediately attached. I knew the program was meant for me and would teach me many skills I would need for the rest of my life.
