Why Do Football Players Get Paid More Than Rugby Players

Football is not the oldest collective sport but the most played in the world. In most of the countries, the part of the football budget in the sport one is the highest. Football is also the most televised sport in the world, thanks to sponsoring. It’s a money maker for a lot of people involved. Football players (at a high professional level) receive the highest salaries in the sport world.
Rugby is also a noble and old collective sport. Rugby is above all a dangerous one. However rugby men don’t earn so much money.
I don’t think that football players’ salary should be reduced but, I rather think that their salaries should be equivalent.

Firstly, injuries are more serious in rugby than in football.
You are going to tell me that football players are sometimes wounded. Though, lots of them simulate, with the intention of cheating. I know that it’s not their wish, that they’re paid for it.
Take an example.
When 2 football players are in the penalty area, the one who hasn’t got the ball, try to cause a tackle or fell down without reason, and then simulate “his death”. On the contrary, a rugby man, who bleeds from everywhere, whose ankle is broken, who lost teeth, will continue to play, regardless of his pains.

Then, football supporters aren’t fair play.
In fact, it’s sadly but when a player enters on the field, a crowd of football supporters manifest by bowing, whistling and penalizing him. There are different stands for each team. They often insult the other supporters and if their team loses, they want to fight… Star system seems to develop aggressive supporters, because players have to be perfect.
Contrary to football supporters, rugby ones are no longer Hooligans. They seat next to a person who supports the other team, and then go to a pub after a game to discuss about the match.
Maybe, it’s because there is aggression on a rugby field, which strangely calm the supporters, and this is the opposite phenomena in
football.

And lastly, football is a question of money. Indeed, they are paid too much because of sponsoring. In my opinion, this money should be used to establish hospitals or used to help associations or voluntary work.
However, we not hear a lot about star rugby’s salary (like Jonny Wilkinson).

In short, I’m not saying that we should reduce football players’ salary. But there should be an equivalent between the salaries of football and rugby players.
Even if we fixed a maximum salary, rugby men would be proud and football ones won’t stop playing. In fact, playing is a pleasure for them; they don’t necessary need high salaries, and will continue to be idolized for their job.
