Why Do Guns Should Be Banned
Recently in San Bernardino,California, " at least two shooters opened fire, killing 14 people" after a shooting that took place, according to cnn.com. Following this tragedy, there has been much controversy in this nation involving various topics. I will be writing about one of these topics today, that one topic, being gun control. I believe that, for the safety and security of the American people, guns should be banned.
Firstly, less guns means a safer America. According to wisqars.cdc.gov, there were 464,033 total gun deaths between 1999 and 2013. Based on this, you can tell that owning guns has and will continue to cause harm to our nation. Secondly, in 2003, 23 high-income nations have been studied, and it has been found that 86% of women killed by firearms were in the US, and American women were more likely to become …show more content…
Finally, according to iom.edu,"[a]lmost all guns used in criminal acts enter circulation via initial legal transaction."According to bjs.gov, 1.4 million guns were stolen from US homes between 2005 and 2010. Therefore, the circulation of guns can also cause guns to end up in the wrong hands, thus causing terror and homicide to be inflicted upon innocent people.
Secondly, guns should be banned, because our second Amendment, which is probably the only reason people can own a weapon, is outdated, and limited. According to napolun.com, "Marshal Maurice de Saxe wrote: 'Light infantry should be able to fire 6 shots a minute, but under the stress of battle 4 should be allowed for.'"(Muskets were a gun that was widely used in the American Revolution) . However, more modern guns such as the AK-47, had a cyclic rate of fire at 600 rounds per minute, according to web.archive.org. With this information, we can conclude that with the standards and performance of a gun, were clearly much higher and better, respectively, which will suggest that the Second Amendment must change, and take into account today's sophisticated
