Immigrants are the sturdy foundation of the United States, for this country was built upon those who emigrated from their homelands.

If the Unites States were to follow the actions of the United Kingdom in terms of border control, Americans would be contradicting their own values. How can all be welcome in the United States when Americans are becoming increasingly more xenophobic and isolationist? Immigrants would be discouraged from moving to the country of freedom, a place where they can freely indulge in their religion and culture. The workforce of the country would decrease in size, so the economy would shrink because the resource of labor has been significantly lessened. The Land of Opportunity would no longer be the glittering diamond in the rough for immigrants, for the systematic exclusion of them from American society is too great a cost for them to travel here for the chance to make a reasonable living.
With xenophobia present in American society, a fear that would drive Americans to strengthen border control, it obviously sends a negative message to countries. Americans discriminate against those of varying nationalities, ethnicities, races, and religions, which infuriates a nation if its people are not permitted to enter the United States because they are “different.” Political ties would therefore be strained, and the United States may find it progressively challenging to negotiate with other nations.
