In earlier studies the tasks used were the once with which males were more familiar than females. Generally, individuals yield more easily when they are not sure about how to behave then when they are confident about the task. So naturally in the earlier studies females yielded much more easily than males. This reasoning was confirmed by another experiment conducted by Sis trunk and Mc David. They used tasks and items with which women were more familiar than males. The results showed that in this case males yielded much easily and showed greater conformity.

They just conclude that they are wrong in their judgement and others are right. For them conforming causes only a temporary dilemma. But there are others who find it very difficult to yield it to others. They feel that they are right in their judgement but they don't want to be different. So they behave in ways that are inconsistent with their private held beliefs.
In such situations they have the tendency to alter their perception of the situation so that conformity appears to be justified. This was supported in a study by Buchler and Griffin (1994).
They divided the subjects into group. They were given a story to read in which a stranger faced a dilemma- whether to join a medical college or a music school. The subjects were asked to indicate what should be the lowest probably chances to this stranger being successful concert performer before they would recommended him to choose music school. In one group, before subjects made a decision they were told that other subjects have chosen only 20% chances of success. While in another group no such information was given after the subjects in both the group had made their decisions, they were asked to give their interpretation of the facts in the
