During the time of Shakespeare's plays many works were published anonymously. Due to that fact, the supports argue why someone would claim to be Shakespeare rather than publishing their works anonymously. The Shakespeare supports also mention Shakespeare’s status as a well-known playwright and actor during his time. Supposedly other writers left reviews of Shakespeare's works and mentioned him by name. One of those people was Francis Meres. Meres named Shakespeare as the author of twelve plays- including four that were never published. It is also said that Meres told his friends about Shakespeare eleven years before the publication of Shakespeare’s Sonnets. The works of William Shakespeare have been admired for centuries. However, in 1848 the authorship of Shakespeare’s play began to be questioned. As of now there have been over 70 people named as potential writers of the Shakespeare plays. Despite these allegations, there are still supports who strongly believe William Shakespeare is the true author of his plays.
