Interview with Thomas Jefferson
Interviewer: Why did you form the democratic republican party?
Jefferson: We were just starting out as an independent country, and we were struggling to figure out what we wanted it to be. When the Federalists proposed their type of government, we didn’t agree with them. Interviewer: How did the Federalists want to form the government, and what about it did you not like?
Jefferson: Well, the federalists wanted a strong centralized federal government, but James Madison and I thought that having a strong centralized government would weaken the people’s and the states’ rights. So, we decided to oppose the federalists …show more content…

Interviewer: So, I’m pretty sure that the kind of government wasn’t the only thing you argued about am I correct?
Jefferson: We argued about many things, some of the things include Jay’s treaty, the assumption of states’ debts, and where to put the capitol.
Interviewer: What was Jay’s treaty about?
Jefferson: Jay’s treaty was officially called The Treaty of Amity, Commerce, and Navigation. Amity was there because this treaty strengthened our bond with the british. Commerce because it allowed us to have some trading with the british colonies, and Navigation because it gave us a border between us and the Canadians.
Interviewer: Why did you argue about Jay’s treaty?
Jefferson: Well we argued about the Jay’s treaty because the Federalists wanted to favor England for the foreign policy because at that time they depended on Britain's business, and we wanted to favor France.
Interviewer: Why did you want to favor France?
