What comes to mind when word racism is mentioned? Many people assume racism is when we think or believe that we are better race than the other person we are comparing with. We all have witnessed racism. I believe that racism is being taught to the individual during their upbringing. As a child, you depend on your parents to help you become who you are. Parents have a big contribution in shaping the kids thinking and influencing with the idea of good vs. bad in context of race, color, ethnicity, and gender. In addition, racism can be seen in people who have lack of knowledge of the individual or about their culture, race culture, belief and history. Women are label generally as sensitive, rigorous with rules, solely family-oriented, emotional or even bitchy. Women continuously struggle for equality at work place. I have seen overtime that women are denied the job over men even though they have the same credentials.
I believe that it is lot to do with childhood upbringing and parents shaping our view point of the world. We are taught certain way to behave, think, work according based on our gender. Social environments experienced as childhood prepare children for their social roles in society as adult. In almost all society, gender role is the basic and important part of upbringing of an individual.
In conclusion, we must not make assumption regarding an individual just because they belong to certain races or stereotype. Belonging to certain race does not mean they are terrorist, criminal or bad person. As being a woman does not mean, she is weak. At the end, I would like to add never judge a book by its cover; it is important to look inside of the book to know its true value.
