von Schlieffen’s 'Schlieffen Plan'(11). It was based off of one massive attack using the Blitzkrieg attack tactic on the Soviet Union (7). Blitzkrieg means "Lightning War"(8), and was based around light tanks supported with tons of planes and infantry troops (10). Operation Barbarossa was the largest battle during World War Two (5). Its consisted of three million infantry troops, 3,580 tanks, 7,184 artillery guns, 1,830 and 750,00 horses(19). With this lightning fast attack, the Soviet Union was caught off-guard, but even with the surprise attack Hitler's plan failed. He failed for several accounts; One being that he had this "Never Retreat, Only Forward" policy, another being that his troops were unprepared for the harsh weather of the northeastern part of Europe. The Soviets were already used to the cold weather and were prepared to fight in it as the Germans were not. Operation Barbarossa was a a sorrowful attempt to take the Soviet Union but in the end created an enemy which was more than likely to become an ally, and gave the time Britain and France time to attack.
2.) Poor Choice of Allies Germany poorly choose its allies, which leads me back to 'Operation Barbarossa' which if it would have never been, Germany would have more than likely allied with The Soviet Union because, Mainly the Allied Powers were democratic, but the Soviets were communists. Democratics and Communists do not usually get along but since Germany tried to take out the Soviets in the beginning they pretty much screwed themselves over.
3.) Hitler as Commander-in-Chief Hitler sensed the total failure of Operation Barossa. He began to think lower of his generals and made himself the Commander-in-Chief, instead of devising new strategies to gain back the defeat. He thought he could undo their failures and plan better. Advice from the many wise generals of Germany could have saved the German army.
4.) Fighting a war on two fonts The most idiotic thing Hitler could have done was decide to fight a war on two fronts, Its just plain out stupid. The main focus for Hitler had always been Russia, but in the middle of this it gave Britain the time to regroup and fight the battle of England, only to lose and to "make it accept the supremacy of Germany". But, instead what happened was that Germany lost that battle, and at the same time had also invaded into Russia. Hitler's mistake was to deal with Britain later. Well you see aside from Hitler’s amazing talents, and his great attribute to pursue people it was not enough to overcome the allied powers.
