Why I Chose To Join The Operational Forces

My decision to join Army Special Operations Forces derives from my experience in the Field Artillery branch. As an ambitious young officer I acquired a multitude of additional skill sets during Field Artillery Basic Officer Leaders Course in hopes of becoming an indispensable asset to my unit. As I continued my career in the branch it became more and more apparent to me that those skills I will rarely use in the operational field. At the time, gender restrictions limited my career progression in the branch and not much of latitude to expand my knowledge and experience. I wanted to be useful to the military. Knowing that I have more to offer to the U.S. Army with my multicultural background and language proficiency skills I decided to join the Army Special Operations Forces. It is important for me to join ARSOF community because I want to reach my full potential while doing the maximum for my country. In order to reach my full potential I need to stay operationally relevant on the battlefield. As a Civil Affairs Officer I can utilize my language skills and what I’ll learn in the Civil Affairs course to create effects that will have a greater operational impact on the battlefield, shape and influence the civilian environment, and gain support for U.S. objectives. I plan to seek out professional growth as a Civil Affairs Officer by improving my language skills, building on what I have learned in the CA course, and work on increasing my mental and physical strength. My short term goals as an ARSOF soldier will support my long term goal to continue my education in the medical field. I plan to attend medical school after my commitment to the military ends. I believe the experiences I acquire as an ARSOF soldier will be instrumental to my future aspirations and
