Why I Chose To Study
I am Kriti Manuja, a grade 11 student currently studying at Westmount Collegiate Institute. I feel that I am qualified for this educational and beneficial opportunity. My keen interest in human biology and chemistry, as well as my work at Weston Pharmacare, has sparked my interest in science, specifically genetics, and given me essential knowledge that will help me have a deeper understanding of the research I will be conducting. My enthusiasm, and natural curiosity keeps me open to new ideas and will constantly keep me on my engaged at this program. Science is the study of the world around us, how and why it works. Although my interests within the subject are broad, genetics is the topic that I would like to study after high school. I …show more content…
I have taken a chemistry course outside of school, and currently, I am also taking the 11u biology course. Aside from the courses I am taking, I have joined the science club at school; performing experiments and learning new scientific concepts outside of class. My extra experience in the lab environment has taught me many valuable skills to becoming a good scientist. I practice lab safety very proficiently and know how to use different laboratory apparatus. Because we generally work in teams, I have also learned to apply good collaboration skills, as well as making independent, and quick decisions when needed. I have also competed in the York Region Science Olympics, which has taught me to be a problem solver and can work my way around any situation that may arise. I also have an appreciation for the performing arts and am in a music program at school. I go to weekly band rehearsals and attend music council meetings to be more involved with the program and take on a leadership role. I am a member of the creative writing club which helps me to increase my creativity and come up with new ideas. Currently, I work at Weston Pharmacare. At my job, I learned real life applications of science and I also have gained good communication skills both towards patients and colleagues. My extra curricular activities have shaped me into a leader, and I believe that my skills will be of good use

I was introduced to the field I am interested in from my 9th grade biology class. Prior to the course, I had never taken biology or any science, for that matter, that had captured my attention such as this year-long experience. I was intrigued by the subject and fascinated with all the advances in society that have been made by scientists throughout the years. The possibility of being able to do this in the future kept me engaged and I further pursued this interest by currently taking AP Biology. In addition, I was inspired by the change that scientists can make through research and…

It convinced me to pursue a path in medicine, so I could learn how to work the intricacies of our internal wiring. Taking AP Psychology also opened to me the field of neurology- the foray into the complex chemistry of our brains. I found beauty in the brain’s delicate neural pathways that housed entire lifetimes of memories, and the unique ability of introspection. Along with classes, I participated in medical-oriented clubs such as Health Professionals of America, which helped me experience life in the medical field. As well as clubs, I was an active player in the Girl’s Basketball team in freshman year. I also take archery lessons to improve my dexterity and stamina, which taught me the importance of persistence for improvement. Both my family and my own interest in medicine inspired me to pursue a career path towards Biology in college. Since medicine is increasingly becoming more corporal, I chose to complete a double degree in Biology and Healthcare Management- an option that only UT Dallas…

This place is not the place for me “. In other words college is not for everybody because not everyone who lives with their parents who can afford for tuition for college. But for me I realize that staying alone and not doing nothing for me was the biggest mistake I ever made as young adult at the age of nineteen. Soon as I turn 20 I decided that it was time for me to do something that’s going to be right for myself which was working and going to college. The first day of me attending college was amazing meeting new people and getting to know others such as colleagues.…
