Why I Want To Be A Teacher

A profession that is important, yet at times whose value is not thought much about by our society is teacher. Often, teachers are overlooked, disrespected, and viewed sometimes as just a babysitter. So, after saying this, why would I want to pursue a career as a teacher? For me, the answer to this question is very easy. Proverbs 19:21 says, “There are many devices in a man’s hear; nevertheless the counsel of the Lord, that shall stand.” For me, this speaks that God’s will shall be done in my life, and His plans are greater than mine. I feel that the call to be a teacher on my life comes straight from God. School is one of the first places that children go at a young age that will leave a lasting impact on their lives. Just like the influence I plan to give to my learners, I desire to do the same for my colleagues. Many times, the struggles of life will grab hold of us on this earth and try to bring us down beyond repair. However, as an educator you have to put on a smiling face for the students and hide away your struggles. When my colleagues are in this position, I desire for them to open up to me and let me help. I understand that sometimes it is hard to show others how we feel in times of heartache and desperation, but I strive to be the person who anyone can come to and trust in when they need it the most. All of my colleagues may not be Christians, but through developing a relationship with them, I may be able to plant a seed in their lives.
