Why I Want To Become A Drum Captain
Music has been in my life ever since I decided to join elementary school choir in third-grade. Since I have discovered my passion for performing the musical arts, I have also been someone who has sat back and talked to everyone to get their opinion. I believe that my appliance to Drum Captain will be a natural transition as I always try to do the best for those around me. My goal has been to inspire the group with my accepting personality by leading them into becoming better musicians and people. I believe that by applying for Drum Captain that I will be able to inspire others to become better at music, and I will make the group more accepting using teamwork, which we will succeed in doing with music. I believe this experience will allow me …show more content…
The word Pride to me means to have honor in something that happens, for instance, I have much pride when I play songs or when I bring a group together. Pride causes me immense joy in my life. In the past school season, my best experience was realizing how well I can influence the entirety of the group. During the multiple teacher changes and stressful times of transitioning with the band, I mustered enough strength to not only play all of my music one- hundred percent, but also helped many of the newcomers transition into a less stressful environment by helping them with music or coaching them into the daily rituals that our band tries to keep. When I realized how much I was helping others, it filled me with a sense of pride for taking responsibility for those who were slightly lost in the …show more content…
If they were talking about poor leading tactics or something that I should do better, I would take their critic into consideration and ask the class as a whole what I can do better to help. If the person had blatantly ignored my directions on multiple occasions, I would have a private talk with them to see what their thoughts are, if I am not able to resolve the conflict I will invest in teachers help if the situation is in need. My playing abilities in percussion are one of the top in the class. I have been playing drums since 7th-grade middle school, my entire career of playing has been to become better at drums, however, my true ability lies in piano based instruments. I have played top solos multiple times on all different types if the marimbas, and have also had solos/ soli’s on the piano for a couple arrangement pieces. I have also had experience in playing string based instruments such as viola and cello, making me able to comprehend all three staffs in at least a proficient level. Compared to the other students I have most likely taken music theory/ piano lessons the longest, which has been since I was four. I have also taken it upon myself to get experience in teaching toddlers through preteens for a broader horizon of skill in the

I could contribute to the class by joining in and showing them how to play each instrument. I would reinforce what the teacher is teaching the pupils. Helping the pupils learn the names of the instruments and maybe what it’s made up of. We could play some songs together in groups and let each pupil have a go with different instruments so they could get a feel of them and ask them what they think of them. I would stop any children being disruptive and encourage them all to follow instructions.…

I would like to audition to be section leader because I am very outgoing and I love to help people in the best way I can. I also would like to audition for section leader because I feel it will help me become better as a person to show me leadership, and friendship. I feel I am a strong leader because I listen to what people have to say but at the same time tell them what they could do to make them better on their instrument. I also welcome everyone. I was a part of the Newnan High School Marching Band my tenth, eleventh, and twelfth grade year. It was a great experience. The Newnan High School Band became like a second family, and the band room was my home away from home. As it got closer to my senior year, I started wondering who was going to get the title of clarinet section leader my last year of marching band. I felt like I would be the one for the job. When they finally informed us that leadership applications were available, I was excited to get my application. I wrote an essay and prepared for my interview. I knew I had the qualities they were expecting in a section leader. I was kind to others, hardworking, friendly, helpful, understanding, and approachable. I anxiously anticipated…

As for character of what I would bring to the band, I am laid back and easy going but I can be very strict when I need to. Whenever we aren’t doing something I usually chat or goof off, but when it’s time to begin, it’s time to settle down, so I center my focus and get right to work trying to get everyone to fall into line. I am very dedicated to music and band so there wouldn’t have to be any worries with my responsibilities for the band. Also, I don’t play any sports or do anything besides choir and band all year with the exception of musical in the spring and diff and AP…

I believe teaching individuals about singing, playing instruments, moving, composing and listening is incredibly important, ranging from infants through to adults, but starting in early childhood would be most beneficial for long term benefits. These key elements contribute significantly in developing their music skills and knowledge; contributing to their education on a more broad scale (Broad, 2007 pg23); and/or assisting the student’s emotional/mental development.…

I enjoyed reading Bertrand Russell’s essay “Unpopular Essays”. I gained a lot of useful ideas and knowledge from reading it. The mentioned section where Russell talks about “the demand for certainty…” was a fairly difficult part to fully understand. Russell talked about how as humans we thirst for absolute knowledge (certainty) and it is only human nature to do so. Ever since the civilization of man we have strived to master natural forces, of acquiring the knowledge and the skill required to produce tools and weapons and to encourage Nature in the production of useful animals and plants.…
