Think carefully about planning your classes so that you are sufficiently challenged without being overloaded. Overloading your schedule will not help you to learn more, but will actually cause you to learn less overall from spreading yourself too thin. Mix your classes with some that are challenging as well as some that are easy or enjoyable to you.…

You are worried about the grades you have gotten so far. I showed you that you have not been working in the amount of time that you should. I advice you to spend more time working with your tutors. You need to study, read, and prepare assignments at least one hour for every class hour. In other words, as you spend 13 hours a week in-class, you should work at Achieve for at least 13 hours a week. During the first 3 weeks of class, you spent 35 minutes working with your tutors.…

Sirens are going off in my head. I have fifteen minutes remaining on the calculus test and I still have over twenty-five questions. Most of the questions are not really hard, just tedious and take forever to complete. I need to calm down and pick up my pace so that I can finish all the questions on time. Half of the questions I can do in my head while the other half I will hurry and write the equations out to get the answers. There are ten minutes left and I only did five problems, I'm moving way too slow to finish on time. But it's ok because the next eight questions are really simple and I knock them out fast. The next few take a little while longer because I have to write it out. Finally, it's the last three questions and I still have 5 minutes left. Whew, I feel very confident that I aced the test and I ended up doing just that. My mathematical skills have helped me once again to pass another test with flying colors. My math capabilities have…
Things that were being talked about in class, I already knew. It made me feel like I was ahead of the game just by putting in those extra hours after class looking at my material for the next class. I really was not expecting such a drastic change in my study habits before I started this assignment, but now I see what a huge difference it makes me feel. I feel so much better now sitting in class and knowing what the professor is discussing about being able to follow along with no problem. When I first started the behavior change my goal was to start studying 3 to 4 hours a day, now it feels like I go well over that not even knowing how fast time is flying…

Is mental strength as important as physical strength? Some people asked this may say no, and some may say yes. I think mental and physical strength are equal in many ways. I think the articles Why We Run by Bernd Heinrich, ¨Confessions of a Doper¨ by Jonathan Vaughters, and other quotes by famous athletes can back me up a little. If anything, maybe they help me go through my own struggles as an athlete.…
I had to plan ahead in order to make sure that I accomplish the assignments for this class while still attending the board meetings for the organizations I was a part of. By looking at my Participation paper I was there for a majority of my class days and the only reason I missed class was because of really bad allergies and when I received bronchitis for week and a half. By going to class I was able to get tips on how to make my work better and how to accomplish the tasks given to us better thus making it less stressful for me to finish the project meaning I was more likely to finish the project earlier than the time given to us. When I realized that going to class and doing my work before the due date made me less stressed out I tried my hardest to always finish my work in all my class on time making me have a less stressful week. Another example of my improvement in this area is when we look at my Communication improvement profile paper written in the beginning of the year. I wrote the paper the night before and really didn’t look at the rule brick on how everything needed to be organized. When looking at this paper I followed the rule brick the best I can and wrote this paper before the due date allowing me to continually correct the grammar mistakes I have made and other problems that could have been found in this paper. Taking…
Getting a “six hour D” in college courses is common. This is normally due to poor study habits. Most students don’t know how to go about studying for a test. They just believe if they read the material and answer study questions as they go that they will perform well on the exams linked to the material. Those students work with the text by reading the content; however they never truly understand it. They will spend hours highlighting and writing answers to questions down. They take a memorization tactic to remember things as facts. This leads to problems when asked conceptual questions and how to apply the concept. They haven’t wired their brain for this type of thinking. They go into the test thinking they know the material but in reality they just know definitions. They have not absorbed the information, so without their notes and textbook they perform below average.…

Long hours of homework, tons of pages of notes and five-hundred word essays is what I thought when I had signed up for APDC language. The workload we had each day was not much but required time to get it done. The amount of workload did not bother me but I needed a way of getting the work done and on time. Personal responsibility is knowing what you have to do without anyone having to keep remind you of your duty. My personal responsibility was very important when I came upon a task that I needed to complete. While making decisions I learned that some helped me succeed such as preparing and attending class and others like procrastinating hindered my success in my English course.…
