I am currently attending Maryville University in pursuit of a doctorate in physical therapy. I chose this particular occupation because I believe in helping people make a difference in their lives, I specifically had military members in mind. As a child I was a part of a very patriotic family where cousins, aunts and uncles all served in various branches of the military. When it came time for me chose a career path I knew I wanted to pursue something that would allow me to be more involved in my support for the military. As I attend classes or become overwhelmed with the stress that college can create, I always sit back and think of the reward I will receive one day when a …show more content…
soldier or sailor is able to walk out of the medical treatment center and return to duty, whether it be jumping out of an airplane or even flying one. To achieve this dream of mine, I have researched the possibility of enlisting after I receive my degree. If I am to enlist, I believe I will enlist in the United States Army in hopes of one day being able to work at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.
I believe that everyone should have the chance to attend college. For me, college has proven to be the time where you finally discover who you truly are. With each semester new challenges occur whether it be a challenging class, like physics, or personal struggles. For the first time as a young adult, we are shown the real world and all it endures and we are expected to be able to handle all the troubles respectively and as adults. As a sophomore, I have been pushed beyond what any high school class ever had in terms of academics. Aspects of life such as: time management, organization, responsibility, and personal judgments are tested in various ways. If you are just beginning your higher education, college can be an eye opening experience.
I also believe that going back to college after being out in workforce for some time can be rewarding but also tough.
When I was a child, my mother decided to return to Southern Illinois University of Edwardsville to receive her Bachelor’s in Accounting. There were weekends when she would sit and study in our living room while my sister and I would watch television. Being able to attend her college graduation was an inspiring event in my life. There are many adults like my mother who go back to college to receive higher education to either better themselves or have the ability to support their family. Though going back to school presents challenges that may be hard to navigate at first, having the chance to continue your education and work towards your dream is a fulfilling
opportunity.
Although going to college may not be for everyone, I believe that having the option to gain more knowledge to pursuing a certain passion is an amazing opportunity. It is a time for self-discovery and learning how to survive the real world. I may be only two years into my program, but I look forward to seeing how the next five and a half turn out.
