Why I Want To Pursue A Degree In Education
Teaching, supporting and encouraging young people in order to shape their futures and develop themselves as individuals is why I wish to pursue a degree in education, however, I want to be able to open children's minds to a wide variety of subjects and topics, not just a singular one.

Through choosing a broad range of subjects I had been able to see how they can connect through educating young minds, in particular, psychology. From doing a national qualification in psychology and by assisting in both a primary four and a primary two class in a local primary school. I have been able to observe children in an educational setting with a much greater insight into how they learn and what is required in order for their brains to retain the information

In doing this, my responsibilities were to not only observe the class but to step in and help when I felt that a student was struggling with the work, needed motivation or was having a problem in their surroundings.

Ways in which I have developed myself in being organized and able to plan ahead has been two years ago when I carried out a weekend-long camp in guides, where I took five other girls with me. In doing this activity, I have realized the importance of; keeping track of important documents, noting and dealing with possible risks while keeping a level head, an essential skill needed for an educator. This experience has made me more resilient and confidence in my leadership skills and when tasked with looking after a group of young individuals.

I have been playing the drum kit for six years and through my national qualification in music, I have developed my patience and dedication due to the difficulty in being able to play the instrument. In doing this, it has helped me take part in wind band for five years which has shown my commitment to attending regular meetings and working as part of a team as well as improving my skills in diligence and time management that has risen from

I believe that I can accomplish any obstacle that stands in my way and I’m not going to let anything stop me. There have been numerous times this year and last year where I have been the leader and I have stepped up for “The Band” and “My Section” because of the love I have for it. For example: All the trombone “fanfares” and movements have been my ideas and I have collaborated my ideas with the other members of my section which have led to success during the football games. Another example is when the band was entered into the martin Luther king parade (2010) and Mr. Green needed people to stay after and develop a dance routine for the band with alumni and others. I was one of the volunteers to stay and help out which was a great idea because I was able to bond with the alumni and other older college students to get their advice and opinions for not only the dance routine but for my life. Another example is when the band was invited to perform for the faith world fundraiser (2010) and Mr. Green needed a student to be a “Fill-in” drum major for that day. I stayed after to volunteer and I was chosen and after that day I worked my butt off to help Corrine and assist her with the dancing for the performance which was a success for us and the band. Last year was my first year of…

I served as a Drum Major for my school's marching band in my senior year of high school. During that time, I worked some of the qualities needed to be a good music director, such as my conducting, my ability to focus for a long time, and how to stay calm in stressful situations. The summer before my sophomore year I picked up the piccolo for marching, and later used in the concert setting. As well as the piccolo, the summer before my senior year I learned how to play the saxophone. These two experiences allowed me to put myself back into the beginner mentality and build myself up. Additionally, I participated in honors bands in which I learned how to comprehend music at an even faster…

I understand that with this job comes great responsibility, and I am definitely ready for it! Being a member of the Orange Wave marching band for two years I have an idea of how to make band more attractive to everyone. Making the time spent in band class and at after school practices most effective is a major prerogative of mine. I would like to make it our number one goal to get every band member to learn, and memorize their music. This will allow the show to be ready as early as possible so it gives ample time to perfect formations, add character to the show, and make it our own. By doing this I know our scores will be significantly higher than last years. Most importantly each member will understand that hard work does pays off.…

Being in the Collingswood HS Marching Band for five years has put me in the position of being an example to the younger members. I have learned that patience, and perseverance are valued qualities in a leader. When helping a new member of my section in the band this year, I had to be patient with her so that she would be able to be able to contribute positively to the performance. Also, when time management between school, band, and other responsibilities have weighed heavily on me, I have…

I have nurtured their growth as both musicians and people. I have watched them continue to enjoy music and become leaders among their peers well past the time in my classroom. As students have graduated from Fort Osage, many have come back to our district and have enrolled their own children into the Beginning Band. Other graduates are now teaching music at high schools and universities. My greatest teaching accomplishment is the legacy of my teaching living on through these students. I have instilled in them the belief that regardless of their circumstances, they can be successful and make a difference in this…

In seventh grade, my brother joined the middle school band. This was the start of a new beginning for me. My perspective of others started to broaden slightly by being exposed to some band members who were my brother’s friends. Three years later, when I entered seventh grade, I decided to join the middle school band and play the trumpet. I finally was a part of the group that I had been mocking for years. This was a large step for me. I was about to embark on a tremendous journey that would completely change my perspective on life. I would start to realize, as I became closer to the other members, that band students are not all the geeks that they are made out to be. While some members are a little quirky and some of the things that I did in band were a little weird, I truly discovered all of the great things that band has to offer. As I soon came to realize, members of marching bands gain valuable character traits, leadership skills, and academic benefits that help them excel in…

During school I was involved in band since fifth grade and to this day band has been one of my favorite classes in school. When I started marching band in ninth grade, something I will never forget was being able to play in the Harvest of Harmony parade and compete at a state competition. From what I learned in band I have the privilege to be able to play the trumpet with the music group at my church the instruments I play are the piano, drums, and the trumpet. I’m also a student at the Career Pathways Institute since eleventh grade, I’m in the drafting course and was involved in making the plans for a Habitat House. Some leadership skills I have are that I’m the leader of the wind instruments in church which include trumpet, clarinet, and saxophone.…

To become an exemplary leader, one must first possess prior knowledge of how to follow a leader. One must know how followers feel before they act as their leader. Luckily, through my experience as a member of the band, I learned how numerous different types of people learn and reason; which marks one of the reasons I believed I was a favorable candidate for drum major. The path to becoming drum major was not an easy one to follow, but definitely worth it in the long run. At the end of this path, I acquired the chance to place my mark on the band, to help change and mold it into an efficient machine and better in general; a chance that fills me with glee and excitement.…

As section leader of the clarinets at Mukwonago High School’s top band ensemble, I am expected to guide my section to success. I lead sectionals and help the other clarinet players with high notes and intricate rhythms. We go over how our parts connect with each others and how they connect with other sections in the ensemble. Aiding younger members of my section helps both me and them to grow musically. I also help lead our jazz combo at school. In a team effort, we express our ideas on phrasing and how we can evoke emotion through the notes and rhythms to the audience. When we share our thoughts and ideas with each other, we promote a friendly and accepting atmosphere that we then take to our other classes. In our marching band I may not be section leader, but I lead by example as one of the strongest mellophone players. By memorizing my music and executing my location in our formations, I set myself and those around me up for success. With all of this teaching and performing experience, I am ready to move on to…

I want to be a teacher for several different reasons. I initially decided teaching was for me when I was in middle school. I had an amazing teacher that helped me through a lot. She made a huge impact on my life, and I knew then that I wanted to be able to do the same for other kids. I later went on to have children of my own, which gave me even more reason to become a teacher. And even with the economy the way it is today, there are actually a lot of opportunities for teaching given the wide variety of jobs a teaching degree can obtain. I also understand the responsibility that comes with teaching and that the job doesn’t end when you leave the classroom. That is why I respect the teaching field as much as I do. I know I still have a long way to go before I get to my teaching career but I feel it will all be worth it when I get there.…

Studying child development/developmental psychology means more to me than a university subject that would be learned for a specific number of hours per week. It is undoubtedly an influential part of the society and something I’m very passionate about. I’ve always been fascinated by the human mind, how it works and how it influences the actions we make and our behavior. Then the interest developed as I started studying psychology, which I have distinctly enjoyed studying. Prior to my undergraduate’s education I have always felt love for children and how they behave and I grew an interest in figuring out how they think, which is what influenced my decision to study psychology at an undergraduate level.…
