I have always been the type of person who has a tremendous amount of desire to achieve. I want to be somebody. I want to make a difference in my community. As a result I set four major goals for myself during my junior year in high school. The first of these goals is completing my high school education with at least a 3.0 grade point average or above. The second goal is to obtain a college education. The third goal is to start a lasting career for myself as a pediatric orthopedic surgeon. The last goal is to raise a family in the best possible atmosphere.…
I decided to attend college because I am too ignorant of the world around me and through study international relations, I'll be able to become more aware of the world and what exactly is happening outside of my westernized views. Through international relations, I've become a person who is better equip in understanding and highlighting issues that need solving outside of the world I live in and have discovered ways to attempt to solve them. If I wasn't able to attend college, I would take it upon myself and travel to countries to expand my knowledge on the different cultures and eat different food and experience the different lifestyles, if need be provide any humanitarian aid that I am capable of…
There are many reasons why I decided to go to college at this point in my life. I want to make my whole family proud of me, and become a better role model for my daughter. I also want to get a better and more stable job for the future, and further my education to improve my own personal well-being.…
Many people do not even think of starting college at any point in their life. For many different reasons. In my eyes it’s a must. What lead me to start collage was to get a better education, to meet new people, and to not procrastinate in starting college.…
Throughout high school, I had always envisioned myself in attending Texas A&M. There are still some extra steps I need to take but I know what my goals are and I’m going to do whatever it takes to achieve them. I know it’s not going to be simple but not impossible. My parents came to this country to work hard and better their lives for my brothers and me. My dad works too hard seven days a week and I look at how tired he is all the time. I want to be able to go to school, pursue my dreams, obtain my dream job and help other people. I want my parents to see that them working so hard and coming to America and leaving their entire family was worth it. I want to witness the happiness in my dads face when I walk across that stage at Texas A&M.…
One thing that is stressed the most in today's society is a college education. Not only do parents want their children to have one, something that is even more stressed is the price we pay to obtain one. Something that needs to be understood is the difference between college costs and college prices. College costs refer to what the institutions spend on education and related services, while college prices are what the students and their families are charged for a higher education along with the money that actually comes from their pockets (Geller viii). Is what we receive from a college education worth what we pay for? Some say yes, and some say no. It really all comes down to how much one has to pay for schooling, how much they can afford to pay, how much one has to pay after they graduate, and how much they get paid. There are many ways to lower the price that is paid for college. One just has to know how to do it in advance and be fully prepared for the work that it requires. In the end, a college education will be worth it.…
Honestly, I know little to nothing about the cost of college, but I have seen the toll of it from my parents. With my sister already in her junior year in a state university, they’ve told me time and time again to save water and electricity to reduce the costs of the bills. When I asked about it they listed to me all the different types of expenses they’ve had to pay for my sister: housing, tuition, food, and clothing. As a high school senior about to graduate and about to go to college, my parents had to pool their savings and what other money they have so that they can brace themselves to support me as well when I continue my education. Although it will be me in campus doing all the work, the cost itself to get me there is a heavy burden…
By the time you’re finished with the first four years of college, you’ll probably have around 30,000 dollars in debt. That’s only for a bachelor's degree. Students in medical school usually finish with 180,000 dollars in debt, while law school students have an average of 100,000 dollars of debt. Coupled with their undergraduate debt, and how they’re doing financially, the cost could be sky high in the end. College used to be much more affordable in the past, but by this point, the cost of college has tripled, and students are deciding to skip out on college because they think the cost isn’t worth the reward. The problem is that it is worth it. Only 69% of high school graduates decide to enroll in college. That means 31 students…
I have always heard people say, “College is the key to success” and “The best way you could have great job, is by going to college”. Honestly, I always believed that you do not have to go to college. I never even wanted to go to college. At that time, I felt that college was a waste of time. The reasons why I decided to go to college was to see if college is for me. Secondly, I decided to go because of my mom and my mentor. Lastly, I want to better myself as person and succeed in life.…
It was at my aunt’s birthday party, when I made the decision to attend college. She asked me that day,” Mija, are you going to college?” At first I hesitated, “Si” . Then she told me, “Are you sure because that is exactly what your older sister said and she ended up pregnant.” After hearing those words, I knew for sure I wanted to be the first in my family to attend college. I wanted to prove her what I said I meant it and was going to make it come true.…
Throughout the United States, many young adults are piled with debt due to the excessive costs of a college education. Today in 2017, Americans owe more than 1.4 trillion dollars in student loan debt. In the United States, college is more expensive than almost any other country. Overall, it limits students abilities to reach their full potential. This impacts many families, even my own, from coast to coast. My family is middle class and I know there are plenty of families out there who have children that want to attend college, but are limited due to not being able to afford it. This is very significant to me as I see my older cousin, Katie, who now lives in Tennessee, struggle to even pay her bills as a high school teacher due to the amount of…
The reason why i want to attend college is because it will be an honor to my family and especially to my mother. College is not common in my family because no one has gone to college yet and I would want to be the first in my family to attend a 4 year university. Going to college will make me feel proud of myself because I will make my mom proud and not just that, but make myself proud of all the accomplishments i have accomplished so far. Personally my career goals is to do something i'm just not going to enjoy for a temporality time, but for the rest of my life. The field where i would want to study is physical therapy or a field where i would be working with bones, possibly I can major in english. Physical therapy grabs my attention because i used to play soccer, but due to health issues I stopped playing, started coaching my brothers team and what i enjoyed from that experience was when someone would…
The pursuit of a higher education has never been high on my priority list. Armed with barely an eighth grade education and tremendous ambition, I was able to achieve professional success in the absence of a college education. My heroes have always been men who have achieved great success with out an education; Henry Ford, Larry Ellison, Bill Gates, and Richard Branson. With the recent downturn in the economy and I found my self seeking employment I realized that not only was I was missing many opportunities due to my lack of a degree, but if I had a degree it is highly possible that I might have been retained from a previous employer as opposed to being laid off. Obtaining a college degree will allow me to be more competitive in the market place, provide me with a great sense of achievement and personal fulfillment, gain more knowledge, and challenge me intellectually.…
The reason why I'm in college is because I want a better future for myself and to show my family that I can become somebody one day. Sometimes I would say to myself like “why am I even here? This place is not the place for me “. In other words college is not for everybody because not everyone who lives with their parents who can afford for tuition for college. But for me I realize that staying alone and not doing nothing for me was the biggest mistake I ever made as young adult at the age of nineteen. Soon as I turn 20 I decided that it was time for me to do something that’s going to be right for myself which was working and going to college. The first day of me attending college was amazing meeting new people and getting to know others such as colleagues.…
In today society it is expected and almost necessary for high school graduates to attend college and obtain a degree. College is viewed as a ticket to a successful and prosperous career and life. One of the biggest controversies for young adults in the United States is weather a college education is worth the price. The average price of one year at a college institute is $24,610 for a public college and $49,320 for a private university. (What's the Price Tag for a College Education) Many college graduates, graduate from college with a debt of nearly $100,000, taking decades to pay off. The extremely high cost of a higher education forces many people to over look it and enter into the work force. The price of college is rising rapidly and…
