woman's privacy, for it is the woman can do what she wants to her body and that the embryo/fetus isn’t a human until it is an independent being. In this paper, I will go over what both sides of the argument say about what they think about abortion. So, the main question to ask is, is abortion right or wrong? Abortion has many different ways of helping woman and their families. Most women who choose to have an abortion are usually more financially stable and can live their lives as they desire. The Biggest reasons that abortion was made legalized was, as addressed by edroe.org, “In recognizing a constitutional right to abortion, the Court in Roe believed that it was meeting the ‘profound problems of the present day.’ The ‘problems’ which the Court thought would be ameliorated by its decision included the medical risks associated with pregnancy, a ‘distressful life and future’ for the pregnant woman confronted with an unwanted pregnancy, ‘psychological harm,’ the difficulty in providing ‘child care,’ ‘the distress, for all concerned, associated with the unwanted child,’ ‘the problem of bringing a child into a family already unable, psychologically or otherwise, to care for it,’ and, for some, ‘the additional difficulties and continuing stigma associated with unwed motherhood . . . .’” Also, shouldn't a woman have the right to have a safe and legalized abortion, for if not, wouldn't that be a violation of the woman’s right given by the constitution? A rape counselor says, “All women, despite how they came to carry a pregnancy, have the right to safe, timely, and humane medical procedures. It is not just the rape survivors I work with who should be able to make choices about their bodies without fear of shame, losing a job to take time off of work or going into debt to make the payment.” Many women also have their abortions because their child either has a very high chance of not surviving labor or the child will have a life of suffering. Wendy Davis says in an article on CNN,“My story begins when I had a medically necessary termination of a nonviable ectopic pregnancy. And then, even more heart-wrenching, I made the decision to terminate a much-wanted pregnancy, when, during my second trimester, my then-husband and I discovered that our baby daughter was suffering from a debilitating brain abnormality. Distraught, we turned to four different doctors seeking some sliver of hope that she could live a sustainable life. Instead, each confirmed what we had already been told: She would likely not survive delivery. Even if she did, the life she lived would be one of suffering. Guided by our doctors and held together by our faith and prayers, we made a decision to spare her the suffering we knew was inevitable. The grief that followed was indescribable, but never did we regret our decision. I cannot fathom a politician substituting his or her judgment for ours and making that decision for us.” For these reasons, shouldn't abortion be legal, and wouldn't it thus be morally right for a woman to have an abortion? So far, it makes sense why so many people support abortion, but what most of these people don’t know is that the child in the mother’s womb is a living human being.
At Procon.org, it has been stated that, “Upon fertilization, a human individual is created with a unique genetic identity that remains unchanged throughout his or her life. This individual has a fundamental right to life, which must be protected.” This statement has also been proven correct by many other doctors and organizations. For example, at tfp student action.org, they tell us that, “The unborn baby's heart starts beating at 20 days and the brain gives off brainwaves at 40 days. If these factors are used by the law to determine death, why can't they be used to determine life?” If you think about it, a woman doesn’t have two brains, two heartbeats, two different DNA’s, four legs, twenty fingerprints, and so on. So this definitely means that the baby is a human being at conception. So therefore, wouldn't this baby also have its own human rights and thus abortion should not be legal? Does not the baby's life matter as much as the mother’s life matters? Dr. Joseph DeCook, executive director of the American Association of Pro-life Obstetricians and Gynecologists, says, “But we’re not talking about pregnancy, the question you have to focus on, is when does meaningful, valuable human life begin? That’s with the union of the two sets of chromosome. You have a complete human being that begins developing.” And since there is another human life at stake besides the woman, then shouldn't the woman suffer the nine months of pregnancy to save that life rather than having an abortion? And if the woman was to go through with the abortion, there is a higher risk of psychological damage to woman than their is to women who don’t have an abortion. If the woman didn’t want the child, then the child should be taken in by the many who want to adopt a child whom haven’t been able to because of the millions of aborted
children. Also, the government should instead of using our tax dollars toward abortions should use the money toward free births for the mothers who don’t wish to keep the child. Also, the government should give a better awareness of what happens during an abortion to the children and the woman who have had to suffer because of their decision. And for those reasons, I feel that abortion should not be legal and that it is morally wrong. Abortion is a commonly fought argument, because many don’t know whether it is a right or a wrong thing for a woman to do. Many who are for abortion argue that it is the woman’s decision to do what she wants to her own body, while others argue otherwise. These people mainly argue that the woman is carrying another human in their body, so therefore cannot kill this being and instead should protect him/her with her own life. Then again, the people who are for abortion state that the woman’s life can become unbalanced if the baby is to be born. But people who are for abortion state that the baby should thus be given to adoption. For these main two reasons, and many more, I feel that abortion is not a right thing for a woman to do, for all life is valuable. So, what do you think about abortion?
