Why Is Academic Integrity Important

Academic integrity is important because it ensures that as students we show that we are responsible enough to acquire many different and important skills honestly that will help with our future career. The definition of integrity is the quality of being honest and fair, a personal choice to hold oneself too consistent moral and ethical standards. Washburn University has four core values that can help explain the importance of academic integrity. The core values include integrity, excellence, accountability, and respect. Excellence is the quality of being outstanding or extremely good. Excellence is something everyone tries to strive for; however, if they have the right mind set they can achieve it. Accountability is an obligation or willingness
to accept responsibility or to account for one’s actions. By being accountable for your own actions allows others to see how responsible you are about. The definition of respect is a feeling of admiring someone or something that is good, valuable, and important. By showing respect you are allowing others to see you as a reliable person and that they can trust you. Academic integrity can encourage us as students to become honest, hard-working, and eminent members of our surrounding communities.
