“You can do anything anyone else can do, except you can do it better”. This was what Ben Carson’s mom, Sonya Carson always used to say. This quote led to extraordinary things, including Ben Carsons success. Life was not so simple for Ben, living with anger problems, feeling lost and bullies in every school he went to. He still persevered and used his brain that god gave him to be the first to successfully separate conjoined twins. Doing this he is now considered the best neurosurgeon in the world.
Ben Carson was born at Detroit, Michigan on September 18, 1951. When he was young his Dad and Mom got divorced, so Ben and his brother Curtis left to …show more content…
He asked Candy, (his future wife) to help him. With Candy and his moms help he was determined to pass the test. The night before the test Ben Carson saw his mom in a dream saying you don’t need books to help you, you got all of it in your brain. So the day of the test Ben thought about his moms word and worked hard to get a 97 and graduate to become a neurosurgeon. “I still remember my moms words, you can do anything anyone else can do except you can do it better”. Soon Ben went straight to John Hopkins to try to make it in and become a John Hopkins Hospital Neurosurgeon. “I could remember the doctors asking me” Ben explained about the whole process. “ There was one time when a doctor asked me a really peculiar question. “Do you like Classical Music?” “Loved it” he replied. The doctor seemed impressed, especially when he asked why do want to be at John Hopkins Hospital and why become a neurosurgeon? Ben Carson answered with the most eccentric response the doctor ever heard. “ John Hopkins is the only Hospital I want to interview, this is my only choice, and as for being a neurosurgeon, I see the brain as if it is a miracle, and i believe anyone is able to do a miracle. I want to save others so that they can do a miracle.” Without saying another word the doctor accepted him. “I feel we will be really good friends”he replied …show more content…
Ben Carson though did not give up and soon his chance came. One day a man needed to remove a part of his brain and their were no active neurosurgeons but Ben. The doctors asked Ben to operate at after 12 hours the operation was succeeded. The main doctor who interviewed Ben asked him to go to his office. He quoted “You operated on a patient without a neurosurgeon supervising. He know you could have gotten fired for doing this ending your career. (He paused) I congratulate you for successfully operating on a patient even though the circumstances. I think you will grow to become a very successful neurosurgeon, thank you”Ben Carson was elated to see what he heard and soon did plenty of operations, but none as big as the mountain he was about to climb.
