I was asked to create a report demonstrating my knowledge on the need, importance and understanding of the various aspects of safety and health at work. In my report I must answer the following six questions.
1. Explore the role of communications and training in the promotion and provision of health and safety in the workplace.
Communications and training are very important when it comes to good health and safety in the workplace. It is the employers’ responsibility to ensure that the needs for good health and safety practices are being communicated effectively, by.

• Safe sites. • Proper training.
• Proper structure of work. • Supervision.
• Safe tools and machinery. • PPE
Medication.
Medication of any kind comes with side effects which can include dizziness, confusion, sickness and lack of concentration. This can reduce their ability to function at work and can increase their chances of having an accident such as a fall and minor injury, where driving is involved this can be more serious as medication can cause fatigue and poor concentration.
As an employer you should make sure.
• All staff inform a supervisor of any medication they may be taking.
• Remove any employee from risk if they are displaying side effects of medication and place them in a safer role until finished medication.
Alcohol.
The use of alcohol in the work place can pose major risks including
• More accidents and injury.
• Lateness or sleeping on the job.
• Absenteeism/extra sick leave.
Employers can help staff with alcohol problems by.
• Knowing how to identify the signs and symptoms of addiction and how to detect them early in the workplace.

Negative stress can cause the production of high levels of cortisol which can cause weight gain and lead to heart disease, diabetes or even cancer. Stress can also lead to anxiety, depression, sleep problems and digestive disorders such as IBS.

• Lifestyle. A healthy lifestyle is a must if you wish to continue to do your job well but bad choices in your lifestyle can have an impact on your health such as.
Smoking which can lead to lung cancer and respiratory problems.
Physical inactivity can cause high cholesterol and high blood pressure.
Unhealthy diet leads to obesity, high cholesterol and diabetes.
Excessive alcohol intake can have devastating effects on your health with high blood pressure, heart failure, stroke, irregular heart beat obesity and alcoholism only a few of the risk factors. All of these will impact your safety and health at work.

• Diet is the most important thing when it comes to your health. Poor eating habits can lead to a host of different problems that will put your health and safety at work at risk these can include.
 Being over or under weight.
 High blood pressure/ High cholesterol.
 Heart disease/stroke.
