Oftentimes one is influenced by what his peers do simply because he does not want to go against the crowd and question what everyone else is going along with. More specifically, it is very common for sports team to take part in a ritual called hazing, where the returning players prank and embarrass the rookies of a team as part of their initiation. Oftentimes these pranks that are enacted on the new player of the team tend to escalate quickly and become traumatizing and degrading to the victims. For this reason, in certain cultures or communities around the world, it is obligatory for women to participate in an arranged marriage. Conventions such as these have been enshrined into the culture and has been passed down through many generations. Even though this does not reflect what is best for the woman, she decides not to question it simply because she has been brought up to believe that there is absolutely nothing wrong with her father choosing who she must spend the rest of her life with.
