President Kennedy held himself responsible for stopping communism from spreading. It was thought that if nothing was done communism take country after country like dominos. Communism was particularly troubling to the U.S. then, because they were at the height of the Cold War. During the Cuban Missile Crisis Kennedy really live up to his goal. It was discovered that nuclear missile launchers were being built in Cuba by the Soviet Union. Kennedy had to act. He a naval blockade to stop the soviet ships to make it to Cuban shores. They stood their ground for days, and finally the Soviet turned back without ever reaching Cuba. In order to further prevent communism, JFK also enacted plans to pull the US and Latin America countries together under trust so that they could work …show more content…
together against communist influence (O'Brien). Kennedy worked hard to ensure that the US was safe from communism, and help prevent other countries from falling to communism. JFK also put a lot of working into building the American economy and general well being.
Kennedy had many plans in place to improve spending and fuel the economic growth. JFK was pushing tax cuts. These cuts would leave people with more money and therefore a better financial standing. He also wanted to increase the education funding. Which would lead to a better educated society and workforce. He also had ideas for medical assistance and anti-poverty programs ("John Fitzgerald Kennedy"). Kennedy successfully lowered unemployment rates 2.9% (O’Brien). This is an impressive amount, especially considering that he was assassinated before many of his plans were carried
out. President Kennedy set out to achieve one of the most far fetched goals; to put a man on the moon. He wanted the US to be the first country to reach the moon and wanted it to happen before the end of the 1960’s. He called for the citizens of the U.S. to act. To band together and work toward this noble goal. The country followed through with what was one of the largest movement of effort and resources than ever before i U.S. history. His plan succeeded and by 1969 the first man to walk the moon was indeed, an American astronaut.
Finally there is one of JFK’s most progressive goals. He looked to improve women's rights. Before Kennedy’s presidency, womens equality had not been brought into to question since 1920. Kennedy changed this. He started The President’s Commission on the Status of Women. This commission's job was to look into fair treatment of women. They had quite a few goals, some of which included equal legal treatment and workplace equality ("John F. Kennedy: Executive Order 10980 (1961)"). Kennedy had radical ideas on gender equality for the time period. Kennedy’s presidency was wildly successful. Although it was cut short only 2 ¾ years into his first term, he had loads of fresh new ideas and goals to better the country we call home. John F. Kennedy was arguably one of the most liked presidents the United States has ever had, and he fulfilled every promise he made to the citizens of this fine country.
