“A growing body of research shows that people lie constantly, that deception is pervasive in everyday life. One study found that people tell two to three lies every 10 minutes, and even conservative estimates indicate that we lie at least once a day”(Boser). Lying is something people do every day but where do people draw line on when lying is ok. Lying is considered by most a morally wrong thing to do because of the negative effects. However, there are many times when lying has no effect at all or a positive influence . Lying is justifiable whenever no one is adversely affected. White lies are justifiable because they have no effect or sometimes even a positive effect. For example, a person goes fishing and catches a five inch Bass. That person then lies to his friends telling them that the bass is nine inches. This lie not only does not have any effect on all parties of the lie. Many times when lying is used to protect someone there is a positive effect. For example, if someone is being chased by an axe murderer and they knock on a person's door, and then ask to hide from the axe murderer in that person's home. Later, the axe murderer comes to the door asking where the person he wants is. THen the person hiding the guy being chased lies to the axe murderer, telling them that he doesn't know where the guy he wants is. If Kant’s theory is put in place to this situation, it ends with a dead man. The person that is lying is not likely feeling worthless for lying to the axe murderer. The person is probably going to feel good about saving a life. Therefore, lying to protect someone disproves Kant’s
