Shakespeare plays are still relevant today and although some people believe that Shakespeare should not be taught in the curriculum others think that it should still be taught because of its relevancy. One reason that his plays are still very relevant are because of his themes in his stories are forgiveness. The reason the theme forgiveness is still relevant is because even in today's world people do not always know how or when to forgive. The reason we still apply some of his themes is because is because forgiveness is a very good attribute to have. When you forgive you get rewarded, not with things but with feeling and positive emotions. The …show more content…
next reason why Shakespeare plays are still relevant is because the human nature has not changed. Although, many people do not believe that standards should be different, times have changed but people's actions and standards have not. His themes are still very relevant and if high school students start to learn about those themes, it is more likely that they will follow those themes and people better people. The last theme that Shakespeare embedded in readers for the greater good is the theme betrayal. In the play Macbeth it states, "This tyrant, whose sole name blisters our tongues,
Was once thought honest. You have loved him well; He hath not touched you yet. I am young, but something, you may deserve of him through me, and wisdom, to offer up a weak, poor, innocent lamb, to appease an angry god." This shows a very good example of the theme betrayal. This quote is saying that the person's name alone makes their tongues blister and it is also is saying that a person deserves a punishment. The reason that betrayal is still a good theme is because in today's world there are people who still sadly betray people or do not keep their promises.
The amazing language that Shakespeare uses changed the way plays were written and because he was the origin and the reason plays were started to be written differently students should still learn about him in English classes.
Rhyme is one of the writing trained that Shakespeare used. Although he did not use it very often it he still knew when to use it. Rhyme is a good straight to use because it catches reader's attention and makes the plays a little more entertaining. Another reason Shakespeare was such a good writer is because he knew when to use the correct work to get certain emotions and feeling out of a person. The last reason Shakespeare was such a good writer was because of the emotions he got people to feel. One example of this is in the play tempest when it says, "My Lord Sebastian, the truth you speak doth lack some gentleness, and time to speak it in. You rub the sore when you should bring the plaster." In this quote it is explaining how Gonzo is criticizing what Sabastian told Alonso. This created a lot of differing opinions and makes readers choose to pick a
side.
In order for Shakespeare to keep his audience and readers entertained he wrote his plays with some action and because of the entertaining purposes Shakespeare should still be taught in English languages. Shakespeare is entertaining because of its good plot. He would always take his time in order to produce quality instead of quantity when he wrote his plays that is the main reason he was so successful and accomplished so many things in his career. The next reason Shakespeare content is so good is because of his cleverness and his ways of deceiving words. When he does this it helps the readers stay and want to read more, because they believe it's funny and entertaining. The last reason why Shakespeare's writing was so well written is because of its humorous aspect. In the Tempest Miranda and Prospero fall in love, want to get married. All of this takes place in about three hours! If that isn't entertaining, or funny then I don't know what is?
On the other hand, other people believe that Shakespeare should not be taught in High School. A lot of people believe that Shakespeare is hard to understand and to grasp its difficult concept. For example, in the tempest it says, "We are such stuff as dreams are made on, and our little life is rounded with a sleep." what exactly does this mean? A lot of readers ask themselves that question every time they read Shakespeare, but is it really that hard of a problem to solve. In reality the problem is that readers are too lazy or not interested enough to actually put in the work and find resources and help. There is a book that is called No Fear Shakespeare, and in this book it shows the modern day writing right beside the original text in Shakespeare. This is a huge help for people who don't understand Shakespeare, you can also ask for assistance from your teacher. Which is probably the best choice. Another excuse that many people use is that Shakespeare's writing is too old and people don't use that language anymore. Although the style of his writing and his language may be old, it is very good to know why and where our modern day English started from. It is also good to know our writing origins and from what our language grew from. The last reason why some people have the idea that Shakespeare should not be taught in school is because it is not interesting enough. They say that some parts in Shakespeare's writing are too long and elaborate and that when someone reads it they get bored and don't follow along, and eventually stop paying attention and loos interest. The reality of it is that Shakespeare is very entertaining and has a lot of humor in it. Some people don't see it but Shakespeare has parts where it is funny.
In conclusion, because of all the evidence Shakespeare should absolutely be taught in high school English classes. Shakespeare is the base of where writing evolved and teenagers should still learn about him. Since writing has advanced so much we should still learn and read Shakespeare's writing in high school, English classes today.
