Why Is Slavery Bad

How would you feel if you were treated as an animal and worked your whole life with not a single cent of pay? Well that is how every slave had to live, work with no pay and mistreatment. Slavery was one of the worst things that has ever set foot in America. To get into this more the reasons slavery is evil is. First, slaves had a terrible experience coming and being here. Second, the way the slaves were treated here and how their rights were always being denied. Lastly, Slavery led to one of the bloodiest wars in U.S history. One of the reasons that slavery was an evil action we took in the past was the way we took them, used them, the Amount we took and what it did. One way I know this was bad is in a Non-fiction article written by a Historian it states that 2.4 million slaves died on the trip coming to The Americas. There was about 12 million slaves that we took out of Africa. The first country to originally start this trade was the Portuguese, then came the Dutch, next came Spain, and lastly France and England went in at the same time. The African slave trade was so harsh that they were only allowed to walk for 2 hours a day on the top of the ship deck.
As we can see in the novel NightJohn slaves do not have the right to read or write, if they are caught the slaves will have a toe or finger cut off. This shows people that a slave has their basic rights taken away and if they are disobedient they will have to face a terrible punishment such as mammy did. As in the book NightJohn, when NightJohn told Walter he was teaching Sarny to read Walter gave NightJohn a cruel punishment as cutting of his middle toes. That shows slaves were treated so badly that even if they try to learn to read they will get the punishment as NightJohn
