It’s unclear what the motives of slavers is; it can be assumed that in order to abuse a living being in this way one would have to be in some form ill, or in some cases it is just something practiced in the culture for hundreds of years that has not yet been abolished. The site states “14,285,700 Indians, mostly lower castes and migrant workers, are enslaved through inter-generational bonded labour, trafficking for sexual exploitation, and forced marriage.” The U.S. has tried to encourage India to pass a law against the trafficking, but India is such a large country with many diverse regions that they are unsure if one law would be able to combat and end the slavery.
We can fight against modern day slavery by donating to anti-slavery / anti-trafficking organizations in our area, and as adults and teachers, schools can help bring awareness to children about child-trafficking and the risks and safety measurements they should take in their daily lives. If we think someone may be a victim of modern slavery, we need to report it; far too often do people turn a blind eye to serious situations in fear of getting involved or being wrong, but by reporting it you may save the person's life and save future victim’s lives.
