Winston Leonard Spencer Churchill is one of Britain‘s greatest achiver. He was a remarkable politician. He is conidered to be one of the best politicians of his time and ours. He was also a brillant speech writer and perhaps among the greatest puplic speakers in history. He was also an artist.

Winston was born on November 30, 1874, to a British father and an American mother. This was a family of wealth who treated him to a rich lifestyle. His father, Lord Randolph Churchill, was a British politician and aristocrat. His mother, Jennie Jerome, was a daughter of an American entrepreneur. Churchill‘s parents were occupied with high society and did not spend a great deal of time with him. In his younger years Winston was sometimes rebellious and often found in trouble. He did not do well in school, and often stuttered when he spoke. People would have never thought that he would turn out to be such an impacting leader. When he finished school Winston went and joined the British Cavalry.

He began to have political speeches at the age of 23. When he was 24 he wrote his first book, called The Story of the Malakand Field Force. At the age of 26 Churchill got elected to the House of Commons, which is to participate in the law making process. He was one of the youngest members.     There was a lack of a strong opposition. The liberal party was weak and not cohesive, the Conservatives complacent and tainted by memories of their failings during the 1930’s. They spent less on 1945 election and focused too much of their campaign on the dominant personality of Churchill instead of the popular reformist ministers such as Butler. Many voters associated Churchill with the nation as a whole and not with the Conservative Party or as only a wartime leader. He was not seen as politician suited to peacetime.
