Milk is Unhealthy Milk has been considered a main ingredient in child development, but what if it is the other way around. Milk, the pillar of nutrition for americans, the U.S produces 196 billion pounds which is 23 billion gallons a year and that is only from the U.S. Milk, as most people know comes from cows as it is mass produced in the U.S. Since the U.S produces so much milk it is obvious why the U.S has so many dairy products. Some products sold with dairy could be cheese, butter, cottage cheese, halve and halve, milkshakes, and ice cream. Considering all the products with dairy it is no surprise that the average american consumes 1,996 pounds in weight per year of pure dairy. Since our childhood we have been brainwashed to believe that milk helps us grow big and strong, but this growth is turning out to be an unhealthy growth. IGJ-1 is a growth hormone that is found in milk that has been link to many deadly diseases in the past. Although the growth hormone IGJ-1 can help grow, it can also help grow cancerous cells. Throughout adult life the human body is already fully developed compared to a child’s body. Since a child is not fully developed IGJ-1 does not affect the child's body as bad, but the adult body is already developed so the growth hormone IGJ-1 can not find anything to act upon except cancer cells. Pursuing this further there has been many links that many pesky illnesses and inconvenience we all hate or would hate to have caused by milk. As a default some people can not consume milk if they do a result could be excessive vomiting, upset stomach, indigestion pain, and diarrhea. On the contrary some people can consume milk, but they do not know the consequences that follow for example gaining of weight, acne, cancer, and heart disease.     When examining the benefits of breastfeeding as opposed to formula milk, breast milk tops the list with the nutrients and antibodies it provides. As breast milk contains antibodies that formula milk does not, this provides extra protection for babies against diseases and viruses. The first milk a baby receives while breastfeeding is colostrum. Colostrum is rich in nutrients and the mother’s own disease-preventing antibodies which may protect the baby from certain viruses (Kutner, 2012). Thus, breastfeeding babies contribute to building babies’ immune systems. As the breast milk matures, “the cells, hormones, and antibodies [in breast milk]…protect babies from illness” (Womenshealth.gov, 2011). This combination is unique to breast milk and is not contained in formula milk.
