Physical therapists should be a “people person” because, put simply, all of their patients are people, and they are in constant contact with them. They must be able to speak to their clients clearly and in a way that the patient is actually able to understand the issue and the proposed solution. Physical therapists must also be resourceful. Every patient is different, so every plan for every patient to recover is different. There are many variables to consider for each and every patient’s situation, so physical therapists must be resourceful and able to lay out a plan of success that will adapt to the individual (BLS.gov). Physical therapy can also be quite physically demanding because therapists must sometimes lift patients and assist them. First, it would be wise to be sure that I am in good physical shape. Because this line of work can be physically demanding, I want to make sure that I am in good condition to handle it so that my body is not straining from work. Also, since I am now in community college, I can start to take the steps towards getting the full education I need for this career. If I begin taking health related classes right now, when I transfer to a four-year university, I will be well on my way to getting that degree and career. On top of all of that, I can continue to do research on this career field to better educate myself about what I am getting myself into.
