Why Should My Brother Sam Be Banned
In this paragraph, I will talk about why My Brother Sam is Dead should not be banned due to exciting scenes. When somebody is reading a book it is because they are looking for something they like. They might read it because it has action, it is humorous, or it might be romantic. I wanted to read My Brother Sam is Dead because it sounded like it was action packed. And I really liked the book because it did have action and it was exciting. Although, some of the action in the book was graphic or really violent but, that is what made it a very interesting book. A quote from the book is, “When the British started to walk in front of the houses, one of the houses looked like it was blowing smoke but, it was the Rebels firing on them.” (Collier

The movie also focuses on the blood that is spread to receive a diamond. The main cause of war in Sierra Leone. The book barely sheds light on the root of the war. The upside of this is the viewer can comprehend the challenges and mentality of the character. The advantage of this is that the viewer can understand the difficulties and mindset of the character. The drawback is it just spotlights on the individual contemplations instead of others leaving space for sentiments.…

One reason this book should be banned is the use of vulgar language. The foul language used in this book is not appropriate for middle school nor elementary libraries, but acceptable to more mature audiences like high school. An example of this occurs toward the middle of the book when, the main character, Alice and her friend are at a party that gets out of hand and she’s talking about it the next day, “Last night was the worst night of my shitty, rotten, stinky, dreary, f*cked up life.” (Sparks, 58) Another example toward the beginning of the book when she’s expressing her feelings about that day, “I feel awfully bitched and pissed off at everybody… I just want to puke all over the shitty world.” (Sparks, 82, 83)…

The people who chose to ban this book did have a point, that foul language and violence is not good for a young student to read, but the good in this book should cover up the bad. The foul language in this book was strictly two words, and they were nothing that most students in my school wouldn’t know. As along with the violence, there are video games and movies that have much more intense violence in them, and much younger people view…

    Why Do Books Be Banned

Not all books that are banned should be but there are some that I see good reasoning for why it has been banned. In my opinion the book I read shouldn’t be banned, but I do see why some readers feel that it should, in the book there is some violence that might be disturbing to a young reader. Also to some young readers they may find the book to be scary. Even with these other points I am still against banning this book and many other books. I encourage anyone who dislikes a book or finds it inappropriate to think about their decision before challenging or banning a…
