The people who chose to ban this book did have a point, that foul language and violence is not good for a young student to read, but the good in this book should cover up the bad. The foul language in this book was strictly two words, and they were nothing that most students in my school wouldn’t know. One of the things that were counted as violence in Fahrenheit 451 was the guard dog, referred to as the Hound, protecting the firefighter’s station. I don’t see this as being violence, but more as keeping things more safe. The other violent act they stated was Mildred, Montag’s wife, trying to commit suicide. Yes, this is a logical reason to ban this book, but this part also played a major role in the scene. This part was proving that Mildred was going crazy from all of the laws that were given to this community. Mildred couldn’t take it anymore, and she just so happened to take more pills than she needed. I do agree that this is a little excessive for young viewers, but I also agree that this was important to the book’s background.
The other reason that this book should be banned was going against religious beliefs. This statement did not make sense to me. I feel as if this book stays within the guidelines of religion, for the fact that they never stated anything that even related to religion. So, maybe the violence and the language were a little bit rough, but for the sake of religious background, this book should not be banned.
In the long run, the inspiring truth and the sad fate about this book should outdo the bad parts that this book may contain. Fahrenheit 451 used to be a book modern high school students had to read, and it still should be. This book puts you in a great mindset, and there is no reason for it to be banned out of student’s lives
