Why should youth be involved in the Eco school program? Essay:
Eco-Schools is a fundamental initiative which encourages young people to engage in their environment by allowing them the opportunity to actively protect it. It starts in the classroom where it expands to the school and eventually change in the community at large. Through this programme, young people experience a sense of achievement at being able to have the experience in the environmental management policies of their schools. Young people need the knowledge, skills, values and attitudes that will enable them to participate as full members of a global society. As global citizens, they need to consider rights and responsibilities and the role of citizens in a democratic society.
The Eco-Schools programme is an ideal way for schools to acknowledge youth on a meaningful path towards improving the environment in both the school and the local community while at the same time having a long life positive impact on the lives of youth, their families, school staff and local authorities. In indonesia there is only 1 ecoschool which is in Bali, the ecoschool was called greenschool. Bali is known as an island with beatiful beach which attract people to come visit Bali. So then there are lots of tourist that come participate in the greenschool activities, it is a place where innovation, creativity and learning flourish, a community, which has come together from all corners of the globe to share new experiences, a place of joy. Not only tourist who participate in greenschool there are also Indonesian who involved in the ecoschool program. By joining ecoschool program youth gain lot of things such as : Increased high school graduation rates, Lower high school dropout rates, Healthier relationships and lifestyle choices, Better attitude about school, Higher college enrollment rates and higher educational aspirations, Enhanced self-esteem and self-confidence, Improved behavior, both at home and at school, Stronger
These are the activities: Make a boat out of recycled objects, Mud Brick Houses, Junk Mail Crafts, Leaf Family, Plant seeds, Make a birdfeeder, Birdwatching, Take a hike, Go for a bike in the nature, Visit the farmer’s market, Search for wildflower(5). At making boat out of recycled objects it is a great activity because it gets kids to create their own toy. Using a juice box, heavy paper (consider using junk mail), and a stick, kids can make and decorate their very own boat. Once it’s made, head out to the stream and let them use their imagination. At the mud brick houses activities kids create their own bricks using not much more than what comes straight from the earth. At the Junk mail crafts kids craft an unuse junk mail and turning it into an eco project. It turns negative things to a positive things. In the leaf family activites kids Kids will spend their afternoon searching the forest for leaves of all shapes and sizes in order to create people, animals or whatever else they would like. It’s a perfect combination of exploring nature and flexing their creative muscles. At the plant seeds activities kids were ask to grow their plant on their own.
