Why Start School Later?
I think that starting the school day later would greatly benefit the students and teachers. if we started school at about say nine thirty in the morning instead of eight thirty or earlier, that would mean that most students wouldn't need to be awake in the morning till almost seven thirty to eight thirty and some kids could even wake up a little later then that depending on where they live. granite it is proven that high school students only need six to eight hours of sleep each night but there is always that few that never get the six to eight hours of sleep. …show more content…
if jimmy has good grades it makes him look good and the school will look good. so there for i do believe that a later day start would great for everyone. Also i think it would benefit the teachers because then they would have more time to get stuff done and maybe it'd actually allow them to teach better which would also allow the students to learn better and again earn better grades on class work, homework, and test. but however by doing that and getting out a hour later or possibly more then that it will also give teens and kids less time outside during the day when the sun is up to get something's done and pretty much students and teachers would be living in the dark because you'd always be in school during the day. but still for better grades and more

Schools should end later in the day so that when students get home, they won't have time to take a nap, which tend to make people stay up later then they need to. Teenagers need lots of sleep and by beginning and ending the classes later would make that a lot easier! Studies have shown that students on the later start time “ had better grades than students that started with a 7:15 a.m. start time”(Erde) This right here seals the deal and should automatically prove that we need to have these times in place and we need them quick for the betterment of our school and our future. And as parents this seems like an even better answer with a more happy kid that is doing better in school because of this change. We need to get out there and make a change in our society that benefits our kids and our future generations by raising the bar and with all of the negative things that go along with these early start times it will be hard to but with this change it will be even more doable and will be…

Did you ever take the time to think about if schools started later and how it would affect the students? It would affect the students in a big way. Some students believe that we should start schools later because kids would get more sleep, would have better grades, and kids would miss fewer days of school. Some students claim that schools should not start later because teens could just go to bed early to get the sleep they need but it depends on when the teens go to bed and when they wake up.…

Even 30 minute differences help improve students scores from B to B+, or a C to C+. “In the past three years, however, scientific studies have piled up, and they all lead to the same conclusion: a later start time improves learning. And the later the start, the better”(Fischetti). Even studies over the US show that later start times improve grades. “Tiredness and fatigue, however, tend to diminish motivation, particularly for tasks perceived as boring or tedious”(Foster).its the motivation and energy in the kids that era them the good grades. Schools should start later in the day because high schoolers would get close to the recommended amount of sleep, which will prevent them from sleeping in class and it will decrease the risk of students getting into dangerous situations. If you had the choice, would you choose to sleep or go to school? Wouldn’t you want school to start later so you could get your nine hours? Well, it’s not as ideal as it seems. For the past few years, the Littleton Public Schools district, along with other school districts around the country, discussed the idea of the change of school start and end times. For the most part of this school year, the district has started to ask parents and students for their opinions and to come up with different solutions that will appeal to everyone. One of the biggest reasons that the district would need to change the times befalls the lack of sleep that students receive. Pamela McKeever, the leader of a study of adolescent sleep said that, "...research explains…

Starting school later and ending much later will benefit students. Absolutely not, if they can't wake up early in the morning for school it probably it's because they are staying up all hours of the night. If they change it where we have to start school much later in the day we be getting out much later will take away the time that we we have after school programs, homework time, and then cutting our sleeping time. First of all, starting school later will make it where we have to stay in school later in the day.…

“Students and teachers should be in favor of later school start time because it results in increased grades, more hours of sleep, and fewer students sleeping in class.” Students should be given a chance to get enough sleep and it may result in higher grades in school and teachers will have more energy to teach student the fundamentals of school better. This method of teaching kids started in 2002 when school boards had the idea starting school at a later time. So students can get a better experience at school…

Schools that have adjusted their schedule to start later than the standard 8:03 a.m schedule have students with better performance, so it would optimal to adjust the start time to 8:30 a.m minimum. By further allowing more time in the morning, both teachers and students can be more satisfied since they can have breakfast or do whatever they wish to do. It is debateful that starting school later means it ends later in the evening, however with the current schedule it causes more harm overall - thus compromise is necessary for better results instead of personal…

One reason schools should start later is because of the importance of how students could more effortlessly become involved with school. By starting school later, it would allow students to score higher in their core classes because students are able to get more sleep, which results in increased performances (Wahlstrom 10). To further support this, Wahlstrom mentions in a study done in multiple different high schools, “Statistically significant increases in the 1st period grade point average in one or more core courses of English, math, social studies, and science with start times from 8:00-8:30 [in the morning]” (11). She then continues with, “Significant increases in grade point average in all 1st-period core courses for all semesters in all grades in Jackson Hole High School in Wyoming, with a start time of 8:55 [in the morning]” (11). This…

One of the reasons we think the school start time should stay the same is because it will make the time commitment of participating in after school activities more difficult to manage. All of us, like many other students, participate in after school activities. A later school start time will mean that school activities will start later and run even later than they do now. The later in the day it gets, the less energy we have to give 100% effort mentally. We will also be more physically tired which means if…
