Why The Constitution Should Not Be Infringed

The Constitution is supposedly the law of the land, right? Well America will soon find out how true that statement actually stands. “The right of people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed,” is part of the second amendment developed by the forefathers of this country (constitutioncenter.org). In the recent debates about gun control, the government is talking about taking away the rights that amendment gives citizens. This has recently become an issue because of all of the public shootings and crimes around the U.S. While something should be done to stop violent crimes and shootings, guns are not the issue and people refuse to understand is that it’s the person behind the gun that pulls the trigger not the gun itself. The country’s identity was built off of the laws contrived in the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence, why would the government change them? Freedom is the reason the first settlers came to America, to have a fresh start and fair laws in a new country. Those people wanted America to be different and have different laws, they moved for a reason. Stricter gun laws would make America the same as where the first settlers came from in countries like England, where citizens can’t own many guns (www.cfr.org). America deserves respect from its citizens and if the government starts limiting gun rights then people will start to become less admiring of the country. By taking away the citizen’s guns, the government is slowly starting to take away citizens’ rights (E).
