Week 15 Persuasive Essay Churches should be tax exempt for the good they do for the community around them. Some feel that the Church should pay taxes. Those people believe that the Church should not receive “special treatment” and should pay taxes like everyone else. If the Churches were to pay taxes, that would mean that the government was controlling the Church. Since the year 1894 Churches have been tax exempt as a way of separating the Church from the state. The Churches being tax exempt shows that religion is more important than the state and that taxation should not control the Church. The Church helps to change the lives of many, uphold a safe community, and gives the means to live to the poor and the needy. The Church also contributes to guiding people down a path that leads to faith and God. The Church is also the primary benefactor to the poor and needy because they provide them with food, clothing, and other supplies. The Church should remain tax exempt for numerous reasons. With the support of the Church people who suffer from issues such as drug addiction, suicidal thoughts, and criminal acts are helped and consoled. The Church helps them to better their lives and live a life of faith and devotion to God. The Church can contribute to turning reckless troublemakers into citizens who can contribute to the well-being of their communities. If the Churches were to pay taxes, the money and other supplies that are put towards helping people turn their lives around would be significantly reduced.
