Why I Want to Be a Web Designer
When we are all born, who’s to know how one will become in life? Who we will be? What we will accomplish? When we all enter this world, our lives can only be determined by our line of choices and decisions. And those lines of decisions determine the paths that we are leading. The paths we lead are different situations we have dealt with and situations that we all will have to deal with. My choices have led me to this point in my life. And at this point in my life, I want to graduate from college, and obtain a degree in which I would be able to acquire a successful career. How will I go about doing that you ask?

First I feel it appropriate that I introduce myself to my audience. My name is Ruthea Buenaseda. I am a 21 year old student currently attending DeVry University pursuing my Associate’s Degree in Web Graphics Design. Prior to attending DeVry, and prior to pursuing my program, I never thought that I would want to be a Web Designer. During my early childhood, by love for sports, especially basketball had always been first priority when deciding what I want to be when I grew up. My father played basketball, and his passion for the sport was passed down to me. But how did I go from a dream of being a professional ball player to a Web designer?

During my last year in high school, I was taking an elective. This elective was offered to any student, needing credits in order for one to graduate. This elective was a Web Design class. This may have just been any other elective, but this class had determined what I pictured my career to be. This class had made me appreciate what I enjoyed about drawing, and hands on, let me experience different ways I could be creative using my love for artistic expression. I possess many interests such as sports, and also writing, and music. I was able to contribute those interests in design.

What career could possibly provide me with the tools I need to be able to express the person I know most? Being a web designer. I was

Throughout the course of my junior year, I have been challenged to be the best artist of my ability. As a graphic designer, I have learned to view things in a different light and learned to express my creativity. Although I am still learning new things everyday about how to become a better artist, I have improved tremendously in every way ranging from the thought process all the way to finalizing each project, and I think that as the days go by I will continue to do well in my high school graphic design career, but in continuing my education in this major and working in a field closely related to it. I have produced at least 5 projects that reflect my passion for graphic design including the New York World’s Fair, currency recreation, and the handmade film poster from the first semester of my junior year and from the second half up until my most recent project, a book jacket, and an organic drink package design.…

Basic Truth 3 in CORNERSTONES for community college success is:“One person and only one person has the power to determine your thoughts and the direction of your future. It is you!” This is the start of Basic Truth 3, a truth I seem to forget. I tend to want others to fix things for me; they make the plans, I execute them. In college, I can’t continue this habit. If I fulfill my dream of becoming a veterinarian then I will be the most highly educated person in my family. Basic truths 1 and 2 seem obvious to me. I have always known that life is made of choices. Everything you do or don’t do is a choice and choosing to work hard in school has always been something I was taught. Truths 3 and 4 are a bit harder. These are the truths that…

Evidently, our whole childhood, we are told we can do anything and be whomever we choose to be. But the people around us and the views that they have been conditioned to hold can help us or hurt us. Our mentors don’t just advise us to choose a “wiser” career choice, but order us to. It is understandable from a certain standpoint that our guardians and mentors only what the best for us and want the generation to be even more successful and frankly, be more wealthy than they are.…

What I do know is that I don't want to wake up ten, fifteen years from now with the bitter realization that I've wasted my life in a job I hate, because I was forced to decide on a career while I was still a teenager. I can only hope and pray that Jesus leads me in the right direction. But just because I may not know what I want to do in the future,it doesn't mean I don't know what kind of person I want to be. I want to be someone who helps people, someone who people can look up to, and can depend on. I feel like there aren't enough genuinely good people in this world, that they are few and far in between. The one genuinely good person I have ever had the pleasure of meeting was my mother, and sadly I won't be able to meet her for a long while. She was a wonderful woman and mother, and is my inspiration. I want to become one of those genuinely good people, like my mother, and I fell like the perfect place to discover how to become that person is at a university. The only thing I'm certain of is that I am a seventeen year old girl looking to get a good education, to learn everything there is to know about the world, and to live my life happy and without any…

The article “Are You Deciding On Purpose” about the interview of author, speaker, and counselor Richard Leider really made me think about my life and what I want to do with myself. Leider brings up many great points in the interview and it was an eye opener for me after I finished reading the article. The first thing he mentions in the interview is how people are intimidated by all the choices we have now as career options. Nowadays, there are so many career paths to choose from that it overwhelms people and the decisions that they make. I think this is true for everyone and especially me. I thought about this for a while and I too do not have any idea what I want to do in my life. I have changed my mind many times about what I wanted to do as a career and I always thought about the money. After I finished reading the article, I realized that picking a career path is not all about the money. It’s about whether you enjoy what you are doing because you spend 60% of your entire life working. If I spent 60% of my entire life just working to pay the bills, I would be miserable by the time I’m retired because there wasn’t any satisfaction or fulfillment for me. I still don’t have any clue on what I want to do with my life but reading this article really changed my mind on a lot of things.…

As I grew older my passion for soccer, math, and science expanded to new horizons that before seemed unattainable. My teachers along with my natural intrinsic curiosity for the topics were developed on deeper levels. For soccer my skills and dedication when I was young allowed me to get the starting goalkeeper position as a freshman in high school. Since then I made sure to put extra time outside of practice in order to succeed. This dedication allowed me to start starting goalkeeper all four years of my high school career. This confidence translated to my academic studies in school. For math i also decided to push myself to levels that i hadn't before. My freshman year I took Algebra 1. Most teenagers do not have a clue about what they want to be when they grow up. Most young adults also do not know where their path is in life. Even some full-blown adults are still trying to figure out their purpose. I was lucky. I knew exactly where I belonged from about the time I was seven up until now, at the decently young age of nineteen. I do not see my path changing anytime soon; in fact, I know it will never change. But, I did not just wake up one day as a child and know what my path was, while that would be impressive. Defining moments in one’s life defines who they are. There were lots of things I experienced in my life that made me realize my purpose, my absolute passion. I had four of these defining moments in my short span of…
