Will the world ever run out of water? This simple question is really and important matter though. With the rising population, could we ever run out of usable water? Disasters triggered by high population will eventually lead to a population crash. Is water scarcity that disaster? When our population crashes, will humans still exist or will they become extinct? In some countries the demand for water is already higher than the amount of water that they have access to. The population is growing, and we aren't gaining any new water, so when are we going to run out?
On average, the world's population is growing by about 1.14% every year. If no disasters occur, such as pandemics or natural disasters, the population is likely to continue growing at this rate. By the year 2020, the world's population is expected to grow to about 7.6 billion people. By the year 2050, it is predicted that the world's population will be about 9.4 billion people. …show more content…
The world's population is predicted to get very large, but will it get to that point?
Will the population crash before then? It is estimated that 223, 200 gallons are used per person per year. This includes irrigation needs, industrial use, and personal use. There are 70,435 quintillion gallons of water for theses uses. That seems like a lot, but look at it this way. It would take three hundred quadrillion people to use all of this water. This is not much when it is compared to the world population.Every year each of the billions of people are using 223,200 gallons. Environmental scientist Peter H. Gleick estimates that 1/3 of the world population will experience water shortages by 2025. The united states most likely will not be affected by this time, but they will also experience water shortages soon
after.
What can be done to prevent running out of water? Well there are a few options out there. The best way to conserve this valuable resourse is to cut back on using it. There are many simple ways to cut back on water use, such as using toilets and shower heads that require less water, or only runer the dish washer when it is full. There is also a process that turns ocean water into drinkable water, called ocean desalination, which could solve our water supply problems. The only problem with this, is that it is expensive, and it threatens marine environments. So far, the best thing that we can do is to limit our use of water to make it last as long as possible and hopefully, some day we will be able to find a way to keep the water we have.
