Today William works with non-profit WiderNet Project and the WiderNet@UNC research lab at the UNC School of Information and Library Science. He made his way there because he was innovative, and determined to bring his family out of the famine that spread his country. William had been forced to drop out of school, so he spent his time reading books from a small library, to make sure he didn’t fall behind, for when he would eventually get back into school. Through lots of innovation, he managed to find alternative pieces for the windmill, and successfully built it. He then began connecting it to lights that he put throughout his house, and then noticed that he would need some other things if he …show more content…
After a year of famine that had spread through his country, he wanted to ensure that his family wouldn’t be the next family to be found dead in the morning. Have you ever thought of where your produce comes from? If you have, then you’ve probably thought of the supermarket, or more logically, a farm. In a barnyard they have all these different kinds of animals; cattle, pigs, chickens, maybe even horses. The farmer always takes good care of his animals, but what about all the other stuff, like his crops? Crops are one of the most important things on a farm. Farmers had to harvest their crops by hand, and it took some back-breaking work to do it. They needed something or someone to help generate a tool to make collecting crops easier, and with his skill and determination, that’s exactly what Cyrus Hall McCormick did.…

Unlike Aimee Mullins who was doubted because of her disability, William Kamkwamba was doubted by his family and other people in his village since he had a dream to bring electricity to Malawi. People doubted him originally because of his windmills, since he didn’t have much of an education. In the passage, “A Young Tinkerer Builds a Windmill, Electrifying a Nation”, by Sarah Childress, it is directly stated in paragraph 10, page 520, that he was no longer able to go to school anymore since his family wasn’t able to afford the $80-a-year tuition.…
