Wine To Water Essay Doc Hendley a marginal student who stays in school, a local bartender in a small town in North Carolina who spent most of his time drinking and playing music in bars or riding his Harley. Along the way, Doc realizes he can do something better with his life. Then he discovers that unclean water kills a child every twenty seconds he found his calling. He channeled his wildness, energy and intelligence into a charitable effort to help people around the world to have clean, potable water on a self-sustaining basis and thus with the help of Tasha, Wine to Water was born. He launched a series of wine-tasting events to raise funds for clean-water projects and to bring awareness to the world’s freshwater crisis. He planned to donate the proceeds through traditional channels, but instead found himself traveling to one of the world’s most dangerous hot spots; Darfur, Sudan. He joined a group called ‘Samaritans Purse’ which helped him get to Darfur to aid the people in need. In Darfur, he witnessed an epidemic of unclean water and that wasn’t even the worst part. The Janjaweed: terrorists in the region of Darfur were shooting at him whenever they saw his car pass by and destroying the bladders containing 10,000 liters of water, or dumping rotting corpses into a primary water source is remarkably efficient for the purposes of mass extermination. With limited funds, Doc realized that he couldn’t build new wells all over the place, so he hired local people to help him with his efforts and restore damaged wells for a mere $50 each. The key to his success was his crew with him in Darfur. Without the help of the others it would have made it very difficult to go into the UN NO-GO Zones to help with the water crisis. I’m not as extreme as Doc is to go to another country and help the people there. But I do help out in my community every Saturday at the local church where we distribute food to the
