Winston Churchill Winston Churchill once said, “You have enemies? Good. That means you’ve stood up for something, sometime in your life.” Churchill’s hard work gave him a lot of fame, even among some enemies. Born and raised to a royal family, Winston struggled in school. He was sent to a military academy. Eventually, he would lead his country through war. Winston Churchill was a Prime Minister in Great Britain who grew up training for the military and led his country through the dark days of World War II. Born prematurely on November 30, 1874, in Woodstock, United Kingdom, Winston Churchill was the oldest son to parents Lord Randolph Churchill and Jenny Jerome. Winston’s mom was at a palace ball when she started going into labor. From birth Winston was already well-known because his parents were high in society. Jenny’s dad had owned the New York Times, and Lord Randolph was a politician. Since his parents were focused on their social images, Winston and his younger brother, John, were raised by their nurse, Mrs. Everest.
