On a cold December day one week before winter break my life was flipped upside down. I was a 5th grader waiting for my mom to pick me up from school after tutoring but, my uncle picked me up that day I asked him, “Where’s my mom?” “Why didn’t she pick me up?” My uncle redundancy , didn’t say a single word to me during the car ride home. As I got to my house, I saw the ambulance outside of my house, hoping nothing was wrong. I open the door hope the first responders weren’t there but as I open the door I accidently hit one of them with the door. As I stepped into my living room saw my mother on the stretcher unconscious, not speaking, not moving. I saw my little brother and little cousin crying their eyes out, I started to bawl also and start screaming ; “Why did this have to happen to me?” “Why my mom?” At that moment, I didn’t know what was happening. When I was 18, my family took a trip to Cancun for Spring Break. I absolutely loved the beaches and palm trees, the white sand, hot sun and blue waves. Ever since then I have had a real passion for tropical islands. My favorite and perhaps the most beautiful Islands I've researched are the Cayman Islands. I've only seen pictures and heard stories but I've already decided that's where I am getting married. I still however, don't know anything about the islands. My love for these islands and my thirst for knowledge on the topic has driven me to do more research and find out the history behind the Cayman Islands. I want to know everything about them, so far the only thing I know is that there are three islands, Grand…

It was a chilly day on March 6, 2007. Me and my family were on 495 going to the Holy Cross Hospital with a slight delay of traffic. For some reason, I kept fiddling with my fingers, I was really nervous to see him. We took the exit 31A and we all shifted to the left since it was a sharp turn to the right. My big sister, Maisie, was on my shoulder and we shifted her head fell on my lap. She woke up and asked where we were. “We are almost there Maisie” my Dad said. We stopped at the traffic light and I fiddled with my fingers some more. “Stop fiddling with your fingers!” Maisie whispered to me. In my head, I say “I can’t, he is the first boy of the family, the first! Besides me!” I stopped fiddling and looked at the huge structure in front of me, The Holy Cross Hospital.…

It was Monday, May 30th, 2011. My family was driving home from a hotel we were staying at in Virginia, after going to Kings Dominion for my birthday day the day before. On the way home, we stopped at a Cracker Barrel for breakfast. During our meal, we got a call from my aunt telling us that my uncle, my mother’s brother, was in the hospital. Only a few days before he had moved back to Guatemala without saying goodbye to me. Once we were back on the road, my mother continued to get phone calls updating us about what was happening down there, as each call came through we all became more and more anxious wait for the answer. Then it came it just wasn't the answer we were hoping for, my mother began pushing on the walls of the car as if they were…

Last fall our school board decided to make it mandatory for students to attend school year-round. There were many issues to look at before making this decision. I feel that year round school can both benefit and hurt children. There are many issues that people are for and against for year round schooling. What will happen to kids who have summer jobs or even part time jobs? Employers look for kids who are willing to work during the summer months when there are more activities going on in our community. During the school year students can only work part time and during the summer they are able to work more hours. When school is out during the winter months, things are slower, so business is slow. When this happens, it decreases will decrease…

There is no doubt that the school system in the United State needs some adjusting. There is a proposal of possibly extending school hours or shifting the schools into a year-round type system. There are many advantages to having the school operate in a year-round schedule as opposed to the traditional schedule as well as disadvantages. A year-round schooling system needs to be considered for the United States county wide because shorter summer breaks allow children to retain more information from the previous year, better opportunities for local businesses and graduating seniors/teenagers looking for…

Some Sumer activities that I like to do or achieve for the school break are having fun with my friends and family and play. On really hot days we go down to the lake and play in the water or go fishing. I also like to play with my dog and go for walks with her if I'm not dragging her all the way there and back. Sometimes I do work with my dad most of the times it involves a lot of elbow grease. I love to do fun activities with my mom that does relate a little work, at the end she gets us a treat. On the days I'm not doing anything I go out with friends or they come to my house, and if I'm good we go to get air, other wise, we just watch movies and relax. On other days when we are in the garden I like to swim, maybe even play with the sprinklers and bother my brothers.…

I woke up at eight in the morning, being that it was May and spring was in the air I knew that my day would be perfect. As I leaped out of my warm and comfortable bed to put on my Bullwinkle slippers, my stomach nerves began to tighten. I figured it was just a small bellyache and I would get over it soon. I walked slowly to the bathroom not really realizing that the house was not filled with sunshine as it usually is during these beautiful spring days. As I began to brush my teeth my eyes caught a glimpse of the window that I now noticed was so close to the mirror. I could have died when I noticed that the rain was coming down like a storm. It was at that moment that I ran to mother's room to tell her that I couldn't go driving today. My whole body was tense, I knew this was a sign for me to stay home, I was scared and would never be able to drive in the horrible storm. I don't know how, but she convinced me to just try, "It's just a driving test," is what she continued to repeat, "if you fail, your not ready." I knew she wanted me to fail anyway.…

Soon she said, “It is for his school project, he has to do a good deed.” “Ok I will let him know,” she said. After that the conversation ended.
