Winter's Tale: The Four Branches Of Government

“And though authority be a stubborn bear, yet he is oft led by the nose with gold.” This quote from Shakespeare’s Winter’s Tale describes the importance of strict authority. There are four branches of government in the SGA; the Senate, the Embassy, the Supreme Court and the High Council. Each of these four branches have a certain amount of power and areas for which they are each responsible. All students are allowed to make proposals, but ultimately it is up to the faculty to authorize proposals and convert them into policies. As school leaders, the SGA can influence the student handbook, interact with the Board, and enforce rules and regulations. The SGA is divided into four branches; the Senate, the Embassy, the Supreme Court and the High Council. The Senate communicates with and represents the student body, and they have the authority to propose rules and regulations. The Embassy is the branch that will attend PTA meetings and plan any events that will take place at Falls Lake
For example, the SGA can make suggestions concerning the alteration of the student handbook, but can not independently change the student handbook without Board approval. They will be able to make suggestions about activities within the school, be enforcers and interpreters of the Board’s will, and be able to veto minor Board actions if they go against the well-being of the students. The SGA can neutralize minor Board actions; in addition, the four branches can also counteract each other. SGA branches can cancel out or overrule others through democratic voting approval from a branch or the FLA Board of Directors. The money supply will be supervised and held by the High Council, however, the Embassy will be responsible for the use and collecting of monetary funds.
