Without Limits By Steve Prefontaine
The second movie I will go over is “Without Limits”. This movie is about long distance running the movie’s main character is Steve Prefontaine. The description of the movie is he was “reowned distance runner who held every record from 2,000 through 10,000 metes”. The movie shows him running away from kids when he was little, and this is the reason why he started running. Steve has been a great long distance runner sense he was in high school. He could out run anybody at his age. The movie starts off in Munich on Stepember 1972. He was getting ready to run for the United States. Then the movie has a flashback to when he was in high school. He was running a cross country event, and he had college scouts looking at him. He was getting all sort …show more content…
He got visits from other people from the university. Once he got a letter in the mail from Bill Bowerman saying he wanted him to attend University of Oregon, he made up his mind where he wanted to go for college. He had all expenses paid for by the university. Bowerman had his first track and field meeting at 7:27am. Steve was confused why the coach had the start time at such an odd time. He asked the coach why he didn’t just have it at 7:30am. The coach stated the reason why I have meeting at 7:27am because it imposes the question why is it starting at 7:27. I found this is a unique way to get people to show up to a meeting. They begin training, the coach then starts giving pointers to the runners about how to become more efficient runners. The movie then goes into Steve first meet for the university. He shows everyone how good he is, and his coach sees he’s a front runner. He like to lead the pack of runners the crowd is felt by everyone after Steve finishes the race in first place. Bowerman tells his assistant to have Steve his last for goal setting …show more content…
He told her the reason why he can win all the matches is because he can endure more pain than anyone he has ever met. He had another meeting with his coach, they had a plan, so he could win Olympic qualifying match. His coach wanted him to increase his pace throughout the race, so the other racers didn’t have enough left in the tank to beat him at the end. During the meet the coach continued to talk about his performance, but Steve said racing wasn’t about performance it was a “work of art”. He went on the win the Olympic qualifying match with his coach’s strategy. The coach gives his team a pre-competition match speech to the team about the Olympic Games it takes a lot more to beat someone in an event than killing them, this happened after Israel athletes were killed before the Olympic games started. This pep-talk is designed to energize the team for the competition ahead. The film goes onto the long distance running event with Steve Pre, he took his coaches advice, and you can see him running behind other players using them to break the wind. Although he had trouble transitioning to the front when he wanted to move up, he was blocked by other runners when he wanted to break from the pack. He ended up coming in fourth place for the Olympic long distance running

Jesse Owens born and raised (where) less fortunate than many. He was a son of a sharecropper and a grandson of slaves. Growing up in a small community, he didn’t have a lot of advantages due to the lack of opportunities provided for African Americans. As a result, his motivation stemmed from prior athletes in his community. Many of these athletes, accomplish greatness through these determination and strides through adversity. Jesse Owens himself was very well respected. Owens gym teacher asked Jesse if would like to be on the track team, because he noticed his hard work ethics but because Jesse had to work after school, he was not able to join the team. Jesses coach told him as long as he continued to work hard he would be willing to offer to train Jesse in the morning before school, and Owens took him up on the offer. Buy the coach believing in Jesse he believed in himself, even though he knew that he was an even sick child, also his coach brought him breakfast every morning so he would keep up his strength and not get sick so often. Jesse trained so hard and motivated his team to the point that not he was noticed but his whole team was recognized by the whole town. (found the article,…

John Wooden might have been the coach I needed when participating in Track and Field for my local high school in Madera, CA. Since it was the first and only high school sport I chose to take part in, mostly due to the fact my friends were on the team, I was unfamiliar with what a good coach was and if he or she would actually make an athlete out of me. Reading about Wooden’s dissatisfaction with society’ focus on grades rather than one’s effort and his choice to focus on developing his player’s bodies and minds rather than hounding them to win, I have realized that my Track and Field coach is also one of those men who would have us perform to the best of our ability and lose rather than give a lackluster performance and win simply because of…
